In recent years, Apple has often faced considerable criticism. His opponents and some fans blame him for not being so innovative anymore. If we look back a little in history, we can clearly find something in these statements and we have to admit that they are not just empty words. In the past, the Cupertino giant managed to shock the world with the arrival of its first computers. It then experienced the biggest boom with the arrival of the iPod and the iPhone, which even defined the shape of today's smartphones. Since then, however, it has been quiet on the footpath.

Of course, since the time of the first iPhone (2007), the Apple portfolio has undergone enormous changes. For example, we have Apple iPad tablets, Apple Watch smartwatches, the iPhone has seen huge changes with version X, and Macs have moved miles ahead. But when we compare the iPhone with the competition, we can be frozen by the absence of some gadgets. While Samsung has jumped headfirst into the development of flexible phones, Apple is relatively standing still. The same is true when looking at the voice assistant Siri. Unfortunately, it lags far behind Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa. In terms of specifications, it is perhaps only ahead in performance - competing chips cannot match chipsets from the Apple A-Series family, which are also excellently optimized for running the iOS operating system.

A safe bet

Apple has accomplished the practically impossible over the years. Not only did the company sell hundreds of thousands of devices, but at the same time it managed to build a solid reputation and a considerable fan base, and above all a loyal one. After all, thanks to this, a "small" company has become a global giant with a huge reach. After all, Apple is also the most valuable company in the world with a market capitalization exceeding 2,6 trillion US dollars. When we realize this fact, then Apple's actions will seem a little more understandable. From this position, the giant no longer wants to embark on uncertain projects and instead bets on certainty. Improvements may come more slowly, but there is more certainty that it will not be missed.

But there is room for change, and it is certainly not small. For example, specifically with iPhones, the removal of the upper cut-out, which has become a thorn in the side of many Apple fans, has been discussed for an extremely long time. Similarly, there is often speculation about the arrival of a flexible iPhone or, in the case of Apple tablets, a fundamental improvement of the iPadOS operating system. But that doesn't change the fact that these are still perfect devices that in many ways beat the competition to the ground. On the contrary, we should rather be happy about the other phones and tablets. Healthy competition is beneficial and helps all parties to innovate. We also have several high-quality models available, from which you just have to choose.

Is Apple setting the direction? Rather, he forges his own path

Despite this, we can more or less determine that Apple has not been in the role of an innovator that would determine the direction for some time. However, this may not always be the case. We have intentionally left out one crucial segment until now. Apple computers are enjoying a huge transformation from 2020, when specifically Apple replaces processors from Intel with its own solution labeled Apple Silicon. Thanks to this, Macs offer higher performance with lower energy consumption. And it is in this field that Apple works wonders. To date, he has managed to bring 4 chips, covering both basic and more advanced Macs.

Even in this direction, the Cupertino giant does not determine the direction. The competition still relies on reliable solutions in the form of processors from Intel or AMD, which build their CPUs on the x86 architecture. Apple, however, took a different path – its chips are based on the ARM architecture, so at the core it is the same thing that powers our iPhones, for example. This brings with it certain pitfalls, but they are well compensated by excellent performance and economy. In this sense, it can be said that the apple company is simply forging its own path, and it seems to be succeeding. Thanks to this, it is no longer dependent on processors from Intel and thus has better control over the entire process.

Although for Apple fans, the transition to Apple Silicon may seem like a major technological revolution that completely changes the rules of the game, unfortunately it is not the case in the end. Arma chips are certainly not the best and we can always find better alternatives from the competition. Apple, on the other hand, is betting on the many times mentioned economy and the excellent integration of hardware and software, which has proven to be absolutely crucial for iPhones for years.
