How long has it been since there has been lively speculation about a headset that Apple should be preparing for us? And where else to introduce it than at an event that will not take such a product into the limelight, since neither iPhones nor Macs will be presented at it? One more thing within WWDC22 would be nice, but not this year.

As soon as a planned Apple event begins to approach, information begins to swarm that it will be the event at which Apple will present its solution for consuming AR or VR content. The game includes glasses or a headset. But nothing will come this year. Are you disappointed? Don't be, the world is still not ready for such a device presented by Apple.

Next year at the earliest

Who else but analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that we will not see a similar solution from Apple at WWDC. Not that we believe his claims 100%, after all, on AppleTrack he has a success rate of his predictions of 72,5%, but here we would really judge that he was right. One of the reasons Kuo doesn't believe Apple will preview its new Apple headset in June is that it would give competitors enough time to copy its original features. It would go on sale anyway with an appropriate delay, which would provide enough space for the competition.

Even so, he still mentions that we will see such a device at the beginning of 2023. This is also supported by Jeff Pu from Haitong International Securities (who only has a 50% success rate in his predictions). If we were to play the analysts too, without having any connection to the supply chains, we would postpone this announcement even further. Maybe in a year, maybe two, maybe even three. Why? For purely logical reasons.

Apple needs a stable market

Although Kuo says that Apple would be afraid that the competition would copy it, but he actually needs it. So it is here, but for now it is rather floundering - both in the number of solutions and in its functionality. Apple needs to have a well-established segment here, and he has completely rammed it into the ground with his product. This was the case with the iPod (MP3 players, disc players), the iPhone (all known smartphones), the iPad (especially electronic book readers), or the Apple Watch (fitness bracelets and various attempts at smart watches). A certain exception is AirPods, which actually founded the TWS and HomePod segment, which is still not very successful compared to its competition. All the solutions were already on the market, but his presentation of the product showed the vision that others rarely have.

In most cases, it was also obvious how and for what to use such devices. But this is not the case with devices for AR or VR. In previous cases, it was a device available to the masses – men and women, young and old, tech enthusiasts and regular users. But what about a VR headset? How would my mom or your mom use it? Until the market is defined, Apple has no reason to rush anywhere. If it is not pressured by shareholders, it still has a huge room for manipulation.
