Autumn Prague lit up yesterday for the first time the premiere edition of the Signal light festival. Until Sunday, the historic center of the capital will present itself as a place where, thanks to modern technology, historical genius loci combine with contemporary art...

The Signal light festival, which takes place from October 17 to 20, will be felt by the whole of Prague, whose selected historical and modern buildings will come to life with light for four evenings, or rather for only three, as they were lit up for the first time yesterday.

Church of Saint Ludmila on Náměstí Miru.

The entire festival, which is accessible completely free of charge, is dominated by a direction of audiovisual art called video-mapping. Its essence is a projection tailored to selected surfaces or objects in such a way as to break the viewer's perception of perspective and reality. The projector allows you to bend and highlight any shape, line or space. The suggestive play of light on objects accompanied by music creates a new dimension and changes the perception of the seemingly ordinary. Everything becomes an illusion.

Four video-mapping projections will be the main attraction of the program. Romain Tardy's work can be seen at the Hybernia theater, the Russian Sila Sveta will present an original mapping at the Tyrš House, the Catalan group of artists Telenoika will create lively silhouettes related to Czech culture in their mapping of the Archbishop's Palace, and the Czech duo The Macula will light up the Church of St. Ludmila on Náměstí Miru . The church of St. Ludmila was among the most popular attractions during the first evening. Video-mapping shows start every night of the festival at 19.30:23.30 p.m. and repeat until XNUMX:XNUMX p.m.

Theatre Hybernia.

However, the lighting effects will not only concern these four objects. The Petřín Lookout will become a lighthouse, Charles Bridge will be guarded by two big eyes, a house of shadows will appear on Kampa, and it will be possible to play old 8-bit games on the New Stage building of the National Theatre. The illuminated Dancing House is also worth paying attention to. As part of the Signal festival, there is also a rich accompanying program that offers, for example, light cruises on the Vltava river, and there are also a number of workshops focused on working with light, both for beginners and professionals.
