In the world of mobile phones, so-called flexible smartphones are getting more and more attention. The biggest player in this segment is currently without a doubt Samsung, which also recently introduced two extremely interesting innovations – Galaxy Z Flip3 and Galaxy Z Fold3. In any case, other manufacturers are starting to notice this trend, and Apple is no exception. But what does it look like with a flexible iPhone? The truth is that it has been talked about for a really long time, but until now we have not heard any more detailed information.

The development is being worked on

Currently, we can say only one thing - they are at least thinking about the flexible iPhone in Cupertino and trying to figure out the best possible way to develop it. After all, this is confirmed by several published patents in which the apple giant focuses on the functionality of a flexible smartphone. In addition, a brand new patent dealing with a flexible battery has appeared in recent days. Specifically, the device in question would have a battery of two parts that would connect to each other in a joint. Anyway, the interesting thing is that each part could offer a different thickness. At the same time, it is clear at first glance where Apple was inspired by this. A similar system is offered by the already mentioned phones from the Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Z Fold series from Samsung.

Apple flexible iPhone patent

In the image attached above, which was published along with the patent, you can see what the battery could theoretically look like. In the middle, the aforementioned reduction is visible. This will most likely serve as a bend point. In the patent, Apple continues to mention how it could benefit from this technology in general, and how it could also be used in the case of other connected devices. In general, something like this would allow mechanical flexibility to be added to the device, possibly two batteries (one on each side).

But when will the flexible iPhone come?

Of course, news about development and patents is of little interest to the average user and potential customer. In this regard, the more important question is - when will Apple introduce a truly flexible iPhone? Of course, no one knows the exact answer yet. In any case, some analysts have already mentioned that we could expect similar news next year. However, these claims were soon debunked by popular leaker Jon Prosser. According to him, a similar device is still a few years away and we won't see it just like that.

Earlier flexible iPhone concepts:

There is nothing to be surprised about. Apple is currently not in the best position and whether it wants to bring its own flexible smartphone to the market, it will have to make a real effort. As mentioned above, the current king in this segment is Samsung. Today, its flexible phones are already of first-class quality, which makes it very difficult for competitors to enter this specific market. So it is possible that the flexible iPhone will come only at the moment when there will be more competition on the market - that is, when companies like Xiaomi begin to fully compete with Samsung. Another interesting question is the price. For example, a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 costs less than 47 thousand crowns. But will Apple fans want to spend so much money on such a device? What do you think about this?
