Just like on an iPhone or iPad, you can listen to podcasts on a Mac, set up subscriptions, download individual episodes and create your own stations. If you're already using native Podcasts on another of your Apple devices (under the same Apple ID), all content and settings will automatically sync with Podcasts on your Mac. The article is intended for beginners and inexperienced users.

To listen to individual episodes, launch the Podcasts app on your Mac and click on any of the items in the sidebar. You will see an overview of the episodes, for which you just need to click on the Play button. After you start playback, a panel with playback controls will appear at the top of the application window. In this panel, you can pause and start playback again, move forward or backward in the episode by a certain number of seconds, or go to a specific place by clicking on the timeline. To adjust the scrolling interval in an episode, click Podcasts -> Preferences in the toolbar at the top of your Mac screen. In the window that appears, click on the Playback tab, where you can then change the interval.

If you want to change the audio output for listening, click on the AirPlay icon on the panel at the top and choose which speakers or headphones the sound should be played on. To see more options for working with an episode, move the cursor to the playback panel and wait until three dots appear to the right of the episode name. After clicking on them, you can choose whether to share the episode, copy it, report a problem, or choose another action.

You can also create a queue of episodes to play in Podcasts on Mac. Select any episode, hover over it and wait for the three dots icon to appear. In the menu, then select Play next, or Play later. If Play next is selected, the episode will be moved to the top of the As next list, otherwise it will be moved to the bottom of the list. After clicking on the line icon in the upper right corner of the application window, you can drag and drop the order of the played episodes on the displayed panel.

To download an episode for offline listening, find the episode you want, right-click on it, and choose Download Episode. The second option to download is to click on the download icon (a cloud with an arrow) to the right of the episode title. If you want to set up automatic downloads of new episodes, click Podcasts -> Preferences in the toolbar at the top of the screen, then enable downloads in the General tab.

In Podcasts on Mac, you can also group individual shows into stations based on genre, topic, or even the time you listen to them. On the bar at the top of the screen, click File -> New Station. Name the station and save it. You will see the created episode in the sidebar. Right-click on it, select Settings in the menu, and you can further edit the station or add programs to it.
