The native application Preview on Mac is used not only for viewing and basic editing of images and photos, but it can also deal with files in PDF format. In today's part of our series on native Apple applications, we will get closer to the basics of working with PDF in Preview.

Files and Views

By default, just na double click to the selected PDF file – automatically will open to you in the native Preview environment. For opening a document in iCloud Drive run first Finder, select in the panel on the left iCloud Drive and open the selected PDF file in the normal way. If in Preview you open multi-page document, you will find previews of individual pages in the after panel on the left side of the application window. Display document you can to change after clicking on the item Display in the toolbar at the top of your Mac screen. You can also choose from this menu hide the sidebar.

Pro transition between individual pages drive over trackpad with two fingers up or down, for view a specific page just click on her miniature in the sidebar. For change order thumbnails, select one of them in the sidebar, press the Cmd key a click to the miniature right click. For change thumbnail size move the cursor to dividing line to the right of the sidebar and slide to adjust size. For preview collapse with thumbnails click on an arrow in the upper right corner of the sidebar.

Searching and other work with files

If you need to find out additional information about the file, open it in Preview and v top bar click on Tools -> Show Inspector. In the top bar of the inspector, then click on individual cards you will see informace about keywords, annotations, encryption, permissions, and other data. You can also use the Preview search function specific words or groups of characters in PDF files. Search bar can be found in upper right corner application window - if you can't see it, you can enlarge the application window by dragging one of its edges. If you need to find in the document exact phrase, enter it in the search field in quotation marks. You can switch the order of the results in the upper left corner of the application window.

To search for text in notes click on in the top bar View -> Highlights and Notes. Then enter the desired term in the search box. For creating bookmarks and work with them click on the v bar top of the screen na instruments. Bookmark you add by clicking on Add bookmark, created bookmarks you will see after clicking on View -> Bookmarks. In the native Preview, there is an automatic continuous storage documents and images, but you can save the document as well manually by clicking on File -> Save or using a keyboard shortcut Cmd+S. For restoration some of previous versions click on File -> Return to -> Previous destination, and choose the version you want to work with. That's all from the first part of this mini "sub-series".
