Using the native Maps application on Mac is really very simple, but we will cover them in our series. We believe that reminding the basics of their use is certainly not harmful, and that it will be useful not only for novice users.

You can search for different places, points of interest, specific addresses, businesses, institutions and other objects in Maps on Mac. You can use either Siri or the search box at the top of the application window to search. Depending on whether one or more results match your query, you will find the corresponding number of red pins on the map. You can view information about the given location by clicking on the selected pin. In this way, you can also start planning a route, add a location to your favorite places or contacts, or report a possible problem. Close the information window by simply clicking outside it. If you need to open multiple maps at once, click File -> New Window on the toolbar at the top of the screen. Maps on Mac also offers the possibility of sharing - just click on the pin, then click on the small "i" icon in the circle and in the upper right corner of the information window, click on the sharing icon (rectangle with an arrow). To share the entire map, click the share icon in the toolbar at the top of the application window.

To find a route in Maps on Mac, click Route at the top of the app window, enter a start and destination point, and choose a mode of transportation. By clicking on the curved arrow to the right of the destination and start, you can swap the two points with each other, by clicking on the time data on the map, you can view the breakdown of the alternative route. After clicking on the selected step in the sidebar of the route, you will see its details. If you have chosen public transport as your mode of transport, you can specify the planned time of departure or the desired time of arrival at the destination - in the latter case, click on Custom and enter Arrival instead of Departure.
