The Keychain feature helps keep your passwords and account information safe and secure on your keychain, so you don't have to remember them all. In today's installment of our series on Apple's native apps and tools, we'll cover the introduction and basic features of Keychain on Mac.

When you enter a password for any account on your Mac, you may be asked if you want to save the password to your keychain, and you can choose whether to never save the password for that page, only save it now, or you save it. Keychain is linked to Keychain on iCloud, so the keychains can be available on all your devices that are signed in to the same iCloud account. To manually add data to Keychain, launch Keychain on your Mac (the fastest way is to launch Spotlight by pressing Cmd + Spacebar and typing Keychain in the search field). On the toolbar at the top of the screen, click File -> New Password, or you can click the “+” button in the upper left corner of the application window. Enter the keyring name, account name and password - you can click Show characters to check that the password is entered correctly.

You can also store all kinds of confidential and sensitive information in the Keychain, such as PIN codes for payment cards. In the Keychain application, click on the selected set of keys. Then, on the toolbar at the top of the screen, click File -> New Secure Note. Name the note and type any necessary information, then click Add. To view the contents of a secure note, click Category -> Secure Notes in the Keychain app. Double-click the selected note and choose Show Note.
