The native Calendar on Mac offers really rich options for managing and working with events. In today's installment of our series on native Apple apps, we'll talk a little more about setting up and customizing event notifications from Calendar and creating invitations for other event attendees.

Among other things, the native Calendar on Mac also offers several options for alerting you to selected events and displaying notifications. To set a notification for a specific event, double-click the event, then click the time of the event. Click the Notifications pop-up menu and select when and how you want to be notified of the event. The notification when it's time to go is only available if you allow Calendar on your Mac to access location services. If you click on Custom, you can specify what form the notification of your chosen event will take - it can be a sound notification, an e-mail, or even the opening of a specific file. To remove a notification, click the Notifications menu, then select None. If you want to turn off notifications for a specific calendar, hold down the Ctrl key and click on the name of the relevant calendar in the panel on the left. Select Ignore Alerts and click OK.

To add more users to the events you've created, double-click the selected event. Click Add People, enter the desired contacts and press Enter. As you add more participants, the calendar will suggest other possible contacts. To delete a participant, select their name and press the delete key. If you want to send an e-mail or message to the invited participants, hold down the Ctrl key and click on the event - then just select Send e-mail to all participants or Send message to all participants. Enter text and send a message or email.
