Clips is a creative native app from Apple that you can find on your iPhone. This is software designed for editing photos and videos. The Clips app first saw the light of day in early April 2017, and like the vast majority of native Apple apps, it's completely free. How to work with Clips?

Application interface and basic recording

Clips is more for fun than professional editing of photos and videos. It primarily works with the front camera, but there is no problem switching to the rear camera. Shooting from the front camera will start immediately after launching the application. Below the window with the current shot you will find a menu with the items Scenes, Camera, Library and Posters. Below this menu are buttons to activate the flash, take a photo, and switch between your iPhone's front and rear cameras. You start recording a video with a long press on the pink recording button - so that you don't have to hold the button the whole time, you can slide it up to activate automatic capture. To stop recording, release the button (in the case of manual recording) or tap on it. You can then find the created clip in the form of a timeline on the bar at the bottom of your iPhone's display. From there, you can tap play your work.

Merge clips and add effects

In the Clips application, you can merge multiple clips into one video, both directly from the application and from your iPhone's library. To add a new clip, just start another recording - the new clip will appear on the timeline in the bar at the bottom of your iPhone's display when it's finished. To add a clip from the library, click Library in the menu below the current footage window, then select the video you want to work with from the library. Then hold the pink record button for the same amount of time you want the video or photo to be displayed. You can change the order of clips on the timeline simply by pressing and dragging, to delete, select the desired clip and click the trash can icon.

To add text, stickers and other effects, tap the timeline with the clip, then tap the colored star icon below the clip window. A menu will appear where you can select animoji, filters, text, stickers and emoticons. To finish working with effects, tap the cross in the upper right corner. After returning to the previous menu, you can add subtitles to the clip, mute the sound, delete it, shorten it, split it, duplicate it or save it. You can add audio tracks to a clip by clicking on the musical notes icon in the upper right corner of the display.

Selfie scenes

If you have an iPhone X and later, Clips lets you create fun selfie scenes with True Depth that transport you to different environments, from the deep sea to a city at night. To shoot a selfie scene, launch the Clips app and tap Scenes at the bottom left of the shot window. After that, just change scenes by sliding their previews on the bar at the bottom of the screen. Select the scene by clicking the Select button, start recording by long pressing and holding the pink recording button.
