One of the most popular and globally played games of the last few years is heading to Mobile Phones. The popular MOBA League of Legends should receive its official smartphone port, which is supported by developers directly from Riot Games. However, they likely won't make it this year, leaving fans to wait until next year for their favorite Summoner's Rift.

The information came from the Reuters agency, which allegedly spoke to three independent sources from within the company who are involved in the development of the mobile port. Both employees of Riot Games in the USA and developers from the Chinese giant Tencent, which bought a majority stake in Riot a few years ago, are working together on the development.

Development has reportedly been going on for some time, but this year's release is said to be almost unrealistic. The problems during development are mainly due to the relationship between Riot and Tencent, when there were several disputes regarding the Tencent-developed and later released MOBA game Honor of Kings.

As such, Riot was reportedly opposed to the idea of making a mobile port from the start. However, after worse than expected economic results came in 2018, the company's management turned around and saw in the mobile version something that could at least partially compensate for the drop in income.

Considering that League of Legends is the most popular PC game of the last few years, a similar move is logical. A mobile port can further expand an already huge player base that will pump money into both Riot and Tencent with the help of microtransactions. However, no one dares to guess what the quality of the resulting title will be.
