“What are you doing?” “I'm playing Pokemon GO.” A question and answer that just about every smartphone user has heard over the past two months. The Pokémon GO phenomenon hit all ages across platforms. According to Bloomberg however, the biggest boom has already passed and interest in the game is declining.

In its heyday, Pokémon GO was played by around 45 million people a day, which was a massive success, almost unheard of on mobile platforms. According to the latest data, around 30 million players are currently playing Pokémon GO. While interest in the game is still high, and some competing apps and games may be quietly envious of these numbers, it's still a significant drop.

Bloomberg published data from the company Axiom Capital Management, which are composed of data from three different application analytics companies. "Data from Sensor Tower, Survey Monkey and Apptopia show that the number of active players, downloads and time spent in the app have long since passed their peak and are gradually declining," says senior analyst Victor Anthony.

He further points out that the decline could, on the contrary, give a new impetus to augmented reality and new games. "This is consistent with data from Google Trends, which shows a peak in the number of augmented reality searches since Pokémon GO was launched," adds Anthony.

Although the current numbers are still high, Pokémon GO managed to lose less than 15 million users in a really short period of time, and the question is how the situation will develop further. Niantic Labs, which built the game on the foundations of Ingress, but enjoyed a much more massive and unexpected success with Pokemon, nevertheless continues to update the game and work to maintain a high number of active players.

The big news could be the battles of players against each other or the exchange and trading of Pokémon. At the same time, their success certainly paved the way for a number of other games based on virtual reality. And perhaps other adaptations of similar cult series, such as Pokémon.
