We are all still getting used to the Notification Center in the new OS X Mountain Lion. But some developers are not idle and are already thinking of ways to make the best use of one of the novelties of the new operating system. Let the service be the proof Poosh – a system for sending notifications using the Safari browser.
Czech developer Martin Doubek has programmed Poosh as an extension for the Safari web browser that lets you v Notification center subscribe to various notifications sent by selected users, websites, magazines, etc. In the notification bubble, a headline and a short message will appear, and by clicking on it, you will be transferred to the attached web address.
Poosh can therefore be imagined as an alternative to Twitter or an RSS reader, from which you also get information about new articles on popular servers. But the difference here is that you don't have to follow any app - Poosh will deliver a notification about a new article (or other information) directly in the form of a notification bubble, no matter what app you're in.
It should also be emphasized that Poosh is still in beta, so it's mainly a test run for now. To install and run Poosh, you must have OS X Mountain Lion, Safari 6.0 and later, an active Notification Center and enabled notifications for Safari. Since Poosh works as an extension for the aforementioned web browser, Safari must be active to display notifications. For those who normally use the apple browser, this will probably not be a problem, others will have to adapt. However, the developer is thinking about how to eventually integrate the entire service directly into the system.
If all the above-mentioned conditions are met, then you are just waiting for the first notification to arrive. And surely another important question will arise for you - who will send it to you? Only selected users (currently Jablíčkář and Appliště magazines) have access to Poosh "from this direction", so you can expect information from them in the future.
As a Safari extension, Poosh currently has no configuration options, which means that if you activate the service now, you will automatically receive all notifications that go through Poosh. However, the possibility of user filters and selection of own subscriptions is understandably being prepared for the future.
How do you like Poosh's new notification project? Vote for its use on the Jablíčkář website:
I write all kinds of stupid things in MacOSX, but they don't want to fix what's there... I don't know why Mountain Lion is starting to remind me strongly of Vista, because of which I said goodbye to Windows...
Try, for example, my Motorola Mac OS-7, I have it on about 6 diskettes.
funny, but when you come across such stupidity as, for example, when you put the machine to sleep (in my case MBP17) with a magic mouse connected and then start it without it and the machine always crashes, it doesn't seem like a step forward. I'd rather not even mention fullscreen, which is only semi-functional on multiple monitors, or the notification list, which doesn't bring anything new
I agree with the fullscreen
Nice idea.
At first I was excited, but as I read it all, I realized that it is probably a useless thing for me, since I use Reeder as an RRS reader.
Would you use… Really? Otherwise, yes, I would use it.
Great… :-)
I'm looking forward to the full version, RSS readers don't work for me and Twitter is not exactly this, a great idea that I really like...
:-)
Thanks for the compliment, the full version should bring answers to questions that arise during the test run. I need to find out if it fulfills its purpose and that the reliability of the service is at a high level. New functions and fine-tuning of shortcomings are a matter of course. I recommend everyone to activate automatic updates in Safari, information about news will come to you directly through Poosh notification ;)
So be so kind and throw in an article, let me know if it works :)
