iMessage has been an inherent part of the Apple ecosystem since 2011. However, their problem is that they only work (and correctly) on Apple platforms. Google wants to change that, with a rather aggressive policy that encourages everyone to let Apple know about their displeasure.

If you live in an Apple bubble, or if everyone around you has an iPhone, you might not feel it. But if you want to communicate with someone using Android, you and the other party will be hit. Tim Cook recently responded to this topic, buy an iPhone for your mom too. He also received a lot of criticism for this, although his views are clear given Apple's policy (to keep his sheep in the pen and keep adding more and more to them).

RCS for everyone

When you go to the product page Android (where, by the way, you will learn how to switch from iOS to Android), there is a challenge from Google directed towards Apple at the very top, and which concerns its iMessage. After clicking on it, you will get to own site fighting against green bubbles. But don't get the wrong idea that Google wants iMessage to be available on Android as well, simply put, it just wants Apple to adopt the RCS standard and make communication between Android and iOS devices, typically iPhones of course, easier and more pleasant.

Rich Communication Services (RCS) is a set of enhanced telecommunication services and, at the same time, a global initiative for the deployment of these services so that they can also be used when communicating between subscribers of different operators and when roaming. It's the kind of cross-platform communication that looks the same everywhere, and not that when someone marks your message with a thumbs up, you get a text in the form of “...liked by Adam Kos”, but you will see the corresponding thumbs up symbol next to the message bubble. Thanks to the fact that Google already supports this in its messages, if someone from iOS replies to a message from Android, the owner of a device with the Google system will see it correctly. However, the opposite is not the case.

It's time for Apple to "fix" text messaging

But it's not just about this interaction and possibly the color of the bubbles. Although they are already here informace, how users of "green" bubbles are bullied. It's also blurry videos, broken group chats, missing read receipts, missing typing indicators, etc. So Google directly states: “These problems exist because Apple refuses adopt modern text messaging standards as people text between iPhones and Android phones.”

The difference between iMessage and SMS

So, on its special page, Google lists all the cons of iMessage and all the pros that would follow if Apple adopted RCS. He doesn't want any more involvement from him, just simply to improve cross-platform communication, which is quite sympathetic. The page also lists reviews from the public and technology magazines (CNET, Macworld, WSJ) that deal with the issue. But the most important thing is that it also encourages the general public to express our dissatisfaction to Apple.

If you click on the #GetTheMessage banner anywhere on the page, Google will take you to Twitter with a pre-composed tweet addressed to Apple expressing your dissatisfaction. Of course, alternatives are mentioned as the last, i.e. communication via Signal and WhatsApp, but this only bypasses the problem and does not solve it in any way. So you want to improve the cross-platform messaging user experience?
