Apple Watch Series 3 they have been here with us for almost 4 years. This model was introduced in September 2017, when it was shown to the world alongside the revolutionary iPhone X. Although this model lacks some newer functions, when it does not offer an ECG sensor, for example, it is still a quite popular variant, which, by the way, is still officially on sale. But there is one catch. Users have been reporting for a long time that they are unable to update their watches due to lack of free space. But Apple has a rather strange solution for this.

The third generation of the Apple Watch only offers 8GB of storage, which is simply not enough today. Despite the fact that some Apple users have virtually nothing in their watch — no data, apps, nothing — they're still unable to update it to a newer version of watchOS. Until now, this has resulted in a message asking users to delete some data to enable the download of the update. Apple is well aware of this shortcoming and together with the iOS 14.6 system brings a curious "solution." Now, the aforementioned announcement has changed. When you try to update, your iPhone will ask you to unpair the watch and perform a hard reset.

An earlier Apple Watch concept (Twitter):

At the same time, the giant from Cupertino indicates that it is unlikely to be able to offer any more effective solution. Otherwise, he would certainly not have adopted such an impractical and often annoying practice, which will become a thorn in the side of the users themselves. It is unclear for now whether the model will be cheaper because of this and will no longer receive support for the watchOS 8 system. In any case, the upcoming developer conference should bring the answers WWDC21.
