We will most likely see the launch of the iPad already this quarter, so it's time to think about what the new generation of tablets will actually look like. Over the past year, many "leaks", speculations and thoughts have come together, so we wrote our own opinion about what we could expect from the 3rd generation iPad.
Processor and RAM
We can almost certainly say that the new iPad will be powered by the Apple A6 processor, which will most likely be quad-core. The two added cores will provide considerable performance for parallel computations, and in general, with good optimization, the iPad would become noticeably faster than the previous generation. The graphics core, which is part of the chipset, will certainly be improved and, for example, the graphics capabilities of games will be even closer to current consoles. Great graphics performance would be necessary even in the case of confirmation of the retina display (see below). For such performance, more RAM will also be required, so it is likely that the value will increase from the current 512 MB to 1024 MB.
Retina display
The retina display has been talked about since the launch of the 4th generation iPhone, where the superfine display first appeared. If the retina display were to be confirmed, it is almost certain that the new resolution would be double the current one, i.e. 2048 x 1536. In order for the iPad to achieve such a resolution, the chipset would have to contain a very powerful graphics component that could handle demanding 3D games at this resolution.
A Retina display makes sense in several ways - it would greatly improve all reading on the iPad. Considering that iBooks/iBookstore are an important part of the iPad ecosystem, a finer resolution would greatly enhance reading. There is also a use for professionals such as airplane pilots or doctors, where the high resolution will allow them to see even the finest details on X-ray images or in digital flight manuals.
But then there is the other side of the coin. After all, you look at an iPad from a greater distance than a phone, so a higher resolution is rather unnecessary, since the human eye hardly recognizes individual pixels from an average distance. There is, of course, an argument regarding the increased demands on the graphics chip and thus the increased consumption of the device, which could have an unfortunate consequence on the overall endurance of the iPad. We can't say for sure if Apple will go the high resolution route like the iPhone. But the current era is leading to super-fine displays, and if anyone will be a pioneer, it will probably be Apple.
Dimensions
The iPad 2 brought significant thinning compared to the first generation, where the tablet is even thinner than the iPhone 4/4S. However, the devices cannot be made infinitely thinner, if only for the sake of ergonomics and the battery. It is therefore very likely that the new iPad will retain a similar size to the 2011 model. Ever since the launch of the first iPad, there has been long speculation about a 7-inch version, namely 7,85″. But in our opinion, the seven-inch version makes the same sense as the iPhone mini. The magic of the iPad is precisely in the large touch screen, which displays a keyboard the same size as on the MacBook. A smaller iPad would only reduce the ergonomic potential of the device.
Camera
Here we could expect an increase in the quality of the camera, at least the rear camera. The iPad could get better optics, maybe even an LED, which the iPhone 4 and 4S already got. Considering the dismal quality of the optics used in the iPad 2, which is very similar to the iPod touch solution, this is quite a logical step forward. There is speculation about a resolution of up to 5 Mpix, which would be provided by the sensor, for example OmniVision, OV5690 – at the same time, it could reduce the weight and thickness of the tablet due to its own size – 8.5 mm x 8.5 mm. The company itself claims that it is intended for a future series of thin mobile devices, including tablets. Among other things, it can record videos in 720p and 1080p resolution.
Home Button
The new iPad 3 will have the familiar round button, it will not be lost. Although it has been speculated for a long time, on the Internet and in various discussions where photos of different Home Button shapes are circulating, we can say that in the next Apple tablet we will see the same or very similar button that we have known since the first iPhone. Earlier before the launch of the iPhone 4S, there were rumors of an extended touch button that could also be used for gestures, but that seems to be the music of the future for now.
Keep holding on
Due to the increased performance of the iPad, we will probably not see a longer endurance, rather it can be expected that Apple will keep the standard 10 hours. For your interest - Apple has patented an interesting method of charging devices running on iOS. This is a patent that uses MagSafe to charge phones and tablets. This patent also focuses on the use of materials inside the device and thus also its charging capabilities.
LTE
There is a lot of talk about 4G networks both in America and in Western Europe. Compared to 3G, it theoretically offers a connection speed of up to 173 Mbps, which would dramatically increase the speed of browsing on the mobile network. On the other hand, LTE technology is more energy intensive than 3G. It is possible that the connection to the 4th generation networks may be available as early as the iPhone 5, while a question mark hangs over the iPad. Even so, we won't be able to enjoy a fast connection in our country, given that 3rd generation networks are only being built here.
Bluetooth 4.0
The new iPhone 4S got it, so what to expect for the iPad 3? Bluetooth 4.0 is characterized above all by its significantly low energy consumption, which can save hours when connecting accessories for a long time, especially when using, for example, an external keyboard. Although the specification of the new bluetooth also includes fast data transfers, it is not used much for iOS devices due to the closedness of the system, only for some third-party applications.
Crab
If this was the biggest draw on the iPhone 4S, then it could see the same success on the iPad. As with the iPhone, a voice assistant could help the disabled control the iPad, and typing using speech recognition is also a big draw. Although our native Siri does not enjoy it much, there is great potential here, and in the future the range of languages could be expanded to include Czech or Slovak.
Cheaper older version
As stated by the server AppleInsider, it's likely that Apple could follow the iPhone model by offering an older generation iPad at a significantly lower price, such as $299 for the 16GB version. This would make it very competitive with cheap tablets, especially then Kindle Fire, which retails for $199. It is a question of what kind of margin Apple would remain after the reduced prices and whether such a sale would even pay off. After all, the iPad is selling more than well, and by reducing the price of the older generation, Apple could partially undermine the sales of the new iPad. After all, it is different with the iPhone, because the subsidy of the operator and the conclusion of a several-year contract with it also play a big role. Unsubsidized older versions of the iPhone, at least in our country, are not so advantageous. iPad sales, however, take place outside the sales network of operators.
Yes, such a fine display as on the iPhone is unnecessary for the iPad, but the current resolution of the iPad is definitely not enough, it definitely needs to be improved. However, if Apple goes down the same path as the iPhone, the iPad won't have the same fine display as the iPhone, which is OK.
By the way, even if it won't be over 300 DPI, they will still be able to call it a retina display. The point is that when they presented the label, they did it quite cleverly, saying that at least 300DPI is needed for a phone that we look at from close up. I wouldn't be surprised at all if they said that 250DPI is enough for a tablet, which we look at from a greater distance, and then over time they said that 150DPI is enough for computer displays, which we look at from an even greater distance. And all of this could be called a retina display...
siri is without a doubt in the cr pass, the retina will only help if the need for a stylus for profit increases acutely. the application is surprisingly enough, 99 percent of things are editable thanks to ios, but gis plans and aerial nav (point) are much better with a stylus. it gets even more intense with subtleties. unfortunately it's in the direction of the accessory manufacturer, so maybe you'll get professional styluses.
Martin, you are an ox :D
Today, the stylus is only relevant for drawing, but with those capacitive displays, those styluses will never be the real thing. But you can draw well with your finger using the relative cursor
I wouldn't say just for drawing, but maybe also for handwriting.
For capacitive displays, usable pieces are finally starting to appear, such as the Adonit or Dagi P504,507,601 stylus. You can find nice examples on the company's website or YouTube. Unfortunately, I don't know why nobody offers them in our country, but every inedible piece of crap does. Apparently ignorance.
A stylus definitely does not belong in flight navigation. The fine display would be there for a better display of information, but it still has to be controlled with the help of a finger.
I don't think that a fine display needs a stylus any more than a coarser one. It has nothing to do with it.
Nice reading :) to be honest, I came into contact with Apple for the first time with the iPhone 4S and I'm excited. When I got the chance to enjoy the iPad2 a few times at Christmas this year, I decided that when the iPad3 comes out - I'm going to it!!!
What did you have before?
I don't know what processor they should give it. But we all know that Apple can modify iOS so that it runs the fastest of all platforms even under a lower clocked processor and RAM. So putting there 4 cores and 1GB of RAM, LTE, Display with mega resolution when they won't be able to last at least 10 hours. I think that Apple will no longer go below 10 hours of battery life for all devices. By self, I mean working time. So if they manage to work on battery life, when will the life last min. 10 hours, everyone would choose iPad 3 if it had 14-16 hours of endurance. I think that the competition would be very far, because Android is a battery eater. And a lot of people from Android would switch to iOS just because of that. The main thing is that it has a 2 GHz processor. I could definitely imagine such things as 4 cores, 1GB RAM, LTE, display, camera and I don't know what else, but I also want endurance!!
What do you think is the ideal battery life for a tablet? How much would you like to increase the possible 3?
I would like to keep it at least. Whatever hardware they put in there. ;O)
It just makes me realize that I've had an iPad2 since about April and it hasn't even been a year!!!! and it's already out….
Apple could slow down the line a little - at least that year, year and a half...
iPad 2 will not be out. It will still belong to the narrow top among tablets, just like the iPhone 4 among phones.
One tablet per year is too fast? But Horst…
Should it be beaten by the competition?
I have an iPad1 and Out definitely doesn't feel like the opposite. Especially among all the possible cheap stuff with a Droid. But a lot of people don't even know what I have.
Let's pour some clear wine. Don't expect revolutionary/mega news. What would they then put in the ipad 4? Do you know what the new ip4s brought? – cpu, camera, siri, ios5. We can expect the same in the ipad 3, etc. I will add more resolution. I'm more worried about battery life. Btw, how is the new ip4s? There was a drop in endurance... the patch on ios should have solved it, right?
Version iOS 5.1 was supposed to address battery status for all phones. Of course, sometimes there are some types who may still have a problem. But the improvement over 5 should be 90%.
Don't forget that the 4S was allegedly released for the expected 5. And the iPad2 is not a revolution since the number one, so now I expect a little more, nothing extra revolutionary, but the display, Siri (hopefully it will be in Czech one day) and facial recognition would be a bit of a revolution. I don't know the performance, I don't know, but even the one in the iPad2 is not used yet, and what is the use of multicore if multitasking is not real? It would be enough to have more exclusive applications usable by the majority and it will still be ahead. Or maybe stupid Bluetooth that works with everyone or NFC.
Yes, the truth is that most expected something bombastic, and yet many people were excited even just about Siri (hopefully one day it will be in Czech), let alone iCloud? "iPad2 is not a revolution from the beginning" - like before the iPad there were real tablets? I really can't agree, sorry.
Are there few exclusive apps? Yes, that's right: either a person uses Apple products and then has no problem with other owners of Apple products transferring files or does not have one and transfers files between any devices. I have to say that this was a feature I used in high school - back then smartphones didn't exist in the variety and availability they do today - and ever since. Or one simply has to do without sending it directly and find some way around it, for example sending it by email or transferring it to your personal cloud from where the user can download it anytime, anywhere. It's just about using "Think different" thinking.
The title is probably a transcription from ENG lets talk about.. They definitely don't speak Czech. He writes like Google translator. Although it is grammatically correct, it simply cannot be said in Czech. :-)
This is not a rewrite, we already published 2 similar articles last year (Let's talk about iPhone 5/iOS 5). So tell me how it's correct, I'm happy to learn ;-) I don't see anything wrong or incomprehensible there.
So in June I bought an iPad2 :D I'm thinking of selling it and jumping for 3 :D who would buy 2)) :D
I think there will certainly be people interested. However, if Apple discounts the iPad 2, you'll have to think about how much to set the price.
If you have 3G and an interesting price, let me know
I didn't mean myself specifically, I'm still at the stage where a tablet seems like a nice, yet superfluous thing. I can get by with an iPhone for now, but I do plan on getting one in the future.
Damn, what am I going to do with all these ipads :D
Exhibition? :D
The author could finally realize that the resolution is FOURTEENTH. If you write in double digits, then you either failed the math test or you don't know what you're talking about.
I am very well aware of that, we just got it wrong. Of course, double the number of pixels in width and length, and of course 2×2=4
I'm expecting a retina display anyway. I have an ip4 and since then every display looks weird to me. Here I was reading something on the iPad in the store and I really don't understand how anyone can read books on it;) Perhaps when the font is enlarged, the squares will disappear a little, but I can still see them there. It's just that ip4 spoiled my vision and there is no going back. So for me resolution is a priority. Does anyone have the same?
Yes, you get used to better quality faster.
Yeah, that's how I feel too. :-)
yes, if you use a retina display, every other one looks terrible, but I have a 3gs, for example, and I don't mind the resolution there either, it's just being pampered by the retina display
When I had an IPhone 3GS I didn't think it had a rough screen, after I bought an iP4 and the 3Gs went to my wife, the difference is obvious :-) iPad vs iPhone 4 ... I really couldn't get used to the rough screen for a long time!! ! even the fact that the iPhone 4 has a screen glued to the glass and the iPad doesn't makes a big difference. On the iPhone, the image is somehow closer, as if it were painted right on the cover glass, the angles are great, I don't get that feeling on the iPad, the image is slightly more obscured and does not seem vivid at all, even though it is also IPS. The iPad definitely needs a higher resolution.
A6 is clear and I expect 1Gb ram. Apple likes to use new technologies, so I would guess that they will deploy the new IGZO technology that is being talked about, because even with Retina resolution, it is more economical than the current display. If he added a stronger battery to it, it would be a blast, I would like to type the hydrogen batteries that he is obviously developing, but I am afraid that it is still in its infancy. As for LTE, I have news that t-mobile+O2 haven't invested much in 3G and they intend to start building an LTE network as soon as possible :) I like Siri a lot and I hope that she will improve it soon.
Do you think that T-Mobile and O2 will put together an LTE network that is still in development and has little availability - despite the fact that they haven't even started giving their customers the option of 3G connectivity, even though it's considered the standard today?
LTE for the Czech Republic is as far as the elimination of major corruption in the Czech Republic :o) abroad, LTE runs solidly. 3G completely normal. Even 3G is not yet standard for the Czech Republic :P
Sure, so if I need a file right away from someone and the person in question does not have mobile internet, of course thinking will help and I will think for a long time until the person in question gets home and sends it by email, but it will be too late. A great solution that no one will think of, of course, and it's definitely faster than simply pairing. I don't need it all the time, but sometimes it would make the situation a lot easier than looking at surprised looks with the words "he can't do that, right?". I did not write that there are few exclusive applications, but that there could be more of them to make the difference more noticeable.
And yes, the iPad2 is no longer a revolution from the start. Revolution was number one. In addition, the number two only has power, which has not yet been fully utilized, which is a shame. Troika would use it just for the resolution.
iPad 2 performance not being used? And what about the super graphic games? :)
Good games.. There are only a few games that do not work on the iPad1 and usually the difference is small or non-existent. This is more likely to be used, for example, in photo editors where the Pad2 also supports multiple MPx or in drawing programs where more layers are also needed.
Yes, I understand. Sometimes it is needed. But even so, who doesn't have mobile internet today? For those who don't, the fact is that fast shipping would be possible, but Apple probably doesn't think like that.
I see, more and more difference. We'll see.
I meant Tynka :)
The only thing that I regret about the iPad is the absence of a USB port, for direct copying, viewing and management of files... Other tablets have USB, HDMI and a number of other ports, but at the expense of the thickness of the device….
I'm sorry too, but not too much. Bluetooth 4.0 would be enough and the port doesn't even have to be solved. If micro USB is used, as some do, the thickness will not increase.
