Yesterday, the new Apple iPhone 3G S was introduced, where the letter S stands for Speed. Some news about the iPhone 3G S was already mentioned in yesterday's article, but some details were forgotten. This article should serve to summarize all the essentials and you will then have an easier decision if upgrading from Apple iPhone 3G to iPhone 3G S is worth it.
So let's take it from the surface. The appearance of the Apple iPhone 3G S has not changed at all from its older sibling, the iPhone 3G. Again, you can also buy it in white or black, but the capacity has increased to 16GB to 32GB. The subsidized prices in the US are set the same as before for the 8GB and 16GB models, meaning $199 and $299, respectively. It is difficult to predict what the prices will be in the Czech Republic, but there are some signs that the new phone could be cheaper in the Czech Republic than when it was launched last year. The phone should to start selling in the Czech Republic on July 9.
But we can already find one significant innovation on the surface of the phone, more precisely on its display. It will be added to the iPhone 3G S display anti-fingerprint layer. So it is no longer necessary to buy special foils against fingerprints, this protection has been on the phone since the beginning. I really welcome such a small thing, because I really do not like a display full of fingerprints.
The dimensions of the iPhone 3G S have not changed not even a bit, so if you have a cover for your pet, you probably won't need to buy a new one. iPhone 3G S gained only 2 grams in weight, which is an excellent result. In addition to several hardware improvements, the battery life has also increased. Although it is necessary to point out - how ever!
For example, with she raised her stamina when playing music for 30 hours (originally 24 hours), playing video for 10 hours (originally 7 hours), surfing via WiFi for 9 hours (originally 6 hours) and the endurance for calls on the classic 2G network has also increased to 12 hours (from the original 10 hours) . However, the endurance during calls via the 3G network (5 hours), surfing via the 3G network (5 hours) or the total standby time (300 hours) has not changed at all. The 3G network is still very demanding on the iPhone's battery, and if you use your iPhone often, you won't be able to last the whole day without a charge. And I'm not talking at all about the fact that push notifications were not launched for endurance testing, so endurance on the 3G network is rather disappointing.
The main reason for buying the new iPhone 3G S is, at least for me, the increased speed. I couldn't find detailed specifications anywhere, if the chip changed, the frequency increased and so on, but Apple talks about significant acceleration. For example, starting the Messages application up to 2,1x faster, loading the Simcity game 2,4x faster, loading an Excel attachment 3,6x faster and loading a larger web page up to 2,9x faster. I think I already know them very well. In addition, it supports the 3G HSDPA network, which can run at speeds of up to 7,2Mbps. But we hardly use it in our regions.
It also appeared in the new Apple iPhone 3G S digital compass. He has often been speculated about and I have already written a little about him here. In connection with the GPS, very interesting applications can certainly be created, and I'm really looking forward to it. It was possible to see that the compass is not useless already during the keynote, when thanks to the integration of the compass into Google Maps, it was possible to easily reorient the map on the iPhone so that we could better orient ourselves and know where to go. In addition, a slice is displayed that shows roughly where we are looking. Very useful!
In the new iPhone OS 3.0, multiplayer games that use bluetooth will often appear. Apple has therefore prepared the new iPhone Bluetooth 2.1 instead of the earlier 2.0 specification. Thanks to this, the iPhone will increase the endurance when using bluetooth and will also achieve higher transfer speeds.
What will convince many of you to buy will probably be a new camera. The new one it takes pictures in 3 megapixels and there is also an autofocus function, thanks to which the photos will be much sharper and of better quality. All you have to do is select the spot on the display that you want to focus on and the iPhone will do the rest for you. We can also take macro photos from as close as 10 cm.
Another important function is video recording. Yes, it really won't be possible to record video on the older iPhone 3G, but only the new model will be able to. It will be possible to record at up to 30 frames per second including audio. After recording, you can easily edit the video (remove unwanted parts) and easily send it away from your phone, for example to YouTube.
The feature also appears in the new iPhone 3G S Voice Control - voice control. Thanks to this function, you can easily use your voice to dial someone from the address book, start a song or, for example, ask the iPhone which song is currently playing. Even more interesting is this function in conjunction with the Genius function, where you can tell the iPhone to play only songs of a similar type (if you say this to Karl Gott, he probably won't play Depeche Mode).
What is really, really disappointing is that Voice Control does not work in Czech! Unfortunately.. Although Voice Over in the iPod Shuffle handles this, the Voice Control function somehow forgot to localize it into Czech. Maybe in an update.
The change also took place in the headphones. The iPhone 3G S took a look at the headphones from the iPod Shuffle. You will find small on them music player controller. I very much welcome this, although I would have preferred in-ear headphones. But I appreciate even this small change!
Perhaps it would also be appropriate to mention that it is about the most environmentally friendly iPhone, which was ever here. Apple pays a lot of attention to ecology, so Martin Bursík can easily buy this new model as well. And for people who like to run with headphones in their ears, it could be useful Nike+ support.
So how do you see it? Do you think upgrading from iPhone 3G is unnecessary? Did something really make you happy or really upset you? How do you feel about the new iPhone 3G S? Share your opinion in the discussion below the article.
The upgrade seems reasonable to me, especially the increased endurance (one keeps playing with it) and the acceleration of the system. If there was also enhanced hardware, it's only good - iPod Touch and iPhone is a promising gaming platform, and I'm personally slowly selling the PSP, because the titles that come out for iPhone are getting better and better.
The compass is great too – I'm left handed with maps, I always have trouble turning them to hit somewhere.
there is no voice control in the road.

at the very bottom "speak your own language" and the path is not there
Cheaper? NO! They will increase in price :(
Hey, can they also send pictures via bluetooth?? :P:)
I'm probably the only one, but I don't feel the urge to upgrade from 3G to 3GS. I was probably expecting something revolutionary, but in short, something that is "perfect" for me. Maybe someone won't just improve the "year" from day to day. The only big benefit I see is the camera, but honestly, no photo from any camera can replace proper optics :-) I admit that macro and autofocus are great and QR and barcode readers could finally work, but I probably wouldn't explain to my wife at home why I would buy another one after less than a year ajfoun :-) The prices and policy of operators in general will probably be decisive. my T-mobile has totally screwed up the bonus points system, so I won't want another flat rate :-)
I present the following as unsubstantiated information: http://hledamte_najdute.bloguje.cz/792268_item.php
well, we'll see how it goes.
apple picker and which operator did you leave? I went to tomobile precisely because of the iPhone because it offered the best iPhone price offer with a 2-year contract and unlimited internet. I bought it for 3500 and I spend 700 a month, I didn't buy it anywhere
After watching the keynote, I wanted to buy this iPhone right away, but I was also tempted by the new 13″ MacBook, so I'd rather go for it.
The iPhone 3GS looks good. The speed is certainly a big advantage, but I was expecting more (e.g. illumination LED, notification LED, new design, OLED). I'm afraid that the price of the phone is too high here. Selling a phone for more than the price of an average laptop seems a bit excessive to me. In my opinion, the useful value of the notebook is much higher.
I note that I am not biased against the iPhone. I've been using it for more than a year now.
I'm quite disappointed that Nike+ support is only on this new 3GS. I expected that with the arrival of the new OS 3.0 it will also work on my 3G :-(. I won't go to the new 3GS just because of that and the camera, I won't use the other things like voice control and the compass. I also have a bad experience with T-mobile so after the contract expires going away.
The new iPhone seems to me to be perfection from the world of mobile phones. Nevertheless, I won't buy it, because I don't have the money, but since I'm so interested in it, I'll wait for some competition and win it there! :D
I will allow myself to correct the author, because the new iPod shuffle does not have a voice control function, but a voice over function, which is not voice control, but only the reading of song names. I have a new iPod so I am confident in my statement. :)
I'm happy with the new iPhone, because it doesn't give me a reason to spend more money on a new version, and I'm happy to stay with the current version, which suits me perfectly, and with the new fw I don't have to think about a hw update. I don't use the camera on any phone, the speed is fine, but the 3G isn't a slow fawn, so it doesn't bother me. And other things are cosmetic. But I'm curious about the price.
no change in material for the back cover? it was a much-discussed topic and I would be surprised if they didn't do anything. Otherwise, the unsubsidized prices in the US are probably not known yet?
No phone is perfect, but the iPhone 3G S came very close to this limit... for me the choice 3G > 3G S is absolutely clear, if only because of the speed and functions that are not supported on 3G... and I'm glad that the appearance hasn't changed, the iPhone in 3G form is simply the best
apple picker:
I myself do not have such an opinion. If I were to make the game myself, I would make it compatible with all iPhone and iPod Touch devices (=much more profit). Unless Apple somehow subsidizes these games, so that it would be one more reason to switch to the 3GS. But I myself do not expect to switch to it, there are not enough functions for my style, and moreover, I am really annoyed by the same appearance, it would like at least some minor change...
If there will be an option in two graphics settings (which is a very good idea, but I don't know what the implementation itself will do - hopefully it won't be that difficult), I think we will all be satisfied :)
I think that Voice Control will be on the way, on Apple.com there is the way in this section (with about fifteen other languages)
I personally will be happy with the new fw., the 3GS doesn't appeal to me that much. In the S, I am mainly attracted by a better camera, but only when practice shows what will be better and what is worse (autofocus can slow down). System acceleration is another thing that appeals to me, but maybe with the new fw. that will be better, so I won't rush to upgrade. I will definitely switch to S in time, but there is no rush. In addition, some of the applications I use are tied to one specific device, so I will wait for the developers to solve the transferability.
I'm a happy iPhone 3G user and the new 3GS model didn't really appeal to me. But I'm already looking forward to the next version of the iPhone, which Apple will probably introduce in 2010.
After upgrading to 3.0, I backed off from buying an iPhone 3GS, because the only thing I missed on my 3G was internet sharing, and it can do that now :0) I'll wait until they come up with something even more sophisticated in a year (and I think they will) and go for it I'll go. I'm completely blown away by using 3G for six months and I intend to try more Apple products ;0))
So, after working with the new FW for a day, I would like to share a few... the copy&paste function works great but I don't know why it doesn't work in applications, I tried to copy the text from an IM message from im+ and unfortunately it's not possible. Spotlight works great but...somehow I think it doesn't search for SMS and in emails only those you have downloaded on your phone in the 50s. But in the tutorial they say that it should search online if the provider supports it, which I assume is the case with gmail, but it doesn't work. Otherwise, the phone is noticeably faster. After the restore, I did not align the application icons for the first time, they are arranged exactly as I had them. Another feature that is not mentioned anywhere is in the appstore, when app previews are no longer viewed in "another window" but swiped from left to right directly next to the text about the app. I'm very sorry that 3G doesn't speak to me :-( I didn't try push notifications then, there are no apps, they probably won't release them until the 17th :-) so you have something to look forward to because super 3G has become a full-fledged phone full of functions that will hopefully stop WM etc. making mistakes.
jablickar: that's a shame, but it doesn't matter anyway, it's a big step forward while maintaining the same control comfort.
I'm just wondering if Voice Control will also be available in the iPhone 3G?
Hello, the new FW will be available on June 17?????
Well, that's great, it's already on Wednesday, I'm looking forward to it too :P
sorry, I'm fixing it, the capacity is 32GB..
Why the hell does Nike+ only work on the 3GS???? I don't understand, well, it's just Apple!!!
Well, I'm thinking a lot about the new iPhone, since I don't own any iPhone, I would definitely go for the 3G S. I think it's definitely a great phone, but one thing that surprises me (and maybe discourages) is that I can't copy music from the phone back to the PC and in addition, if I add one song, all the others will be deleted from my phone and there will be only that one, so it forces me to copy like 2 gigs of music again every time I want to add one song? I don't understand that and it takes me as nonsense. Is this really the case or is there a way around it or have I read confusing information? Thanks for the info, otherwise I would very much like to become an iPhone user.
And can I upload any song to my phone or only those that I buy before iTunes? I'm a complete Apple freak here, so don't get mad if I have stupid questions.
Well... I don't know... but I think that the new "S" probably won't be anything for me... Except for video recording (which I'm sorry for, probably won't be with the old iPhone) and a GPS that "turns" in the direction of travel (because when I drive a car I crane my neck terribly to know which way to turn - typical female) so I wasn't excited about anything... copy-paste, writing text messages and e-mails in width, mmsky... I also have an old iPhone after updating to 3.0... so it's probably a waste of money to go to something new, when actually the "old" isn't that old yet... But there's no arguing against taste...
Oh and one more thing that is NIKE+
@Johny: NIKE+ is an app for joggers... it combines a music player, a GPS, a calorie calculator based on the number of kilometers traveled and some other features... I haven't studied it much, I'm not a runner, so for me it's a commercial Nike advertising app . But I believe that he will find all his supporters.
And does anyone know what else I need in addition to the iPhone 3G S? Probably nothing anymore, the iPhone has GPS and that should be enough in terms of hardware, right? Then it's probably just a software thing. Thanks for the info from someone who knows about it.
I'm really looking forward to the iPhone, maybe the 3GS will be available here soon.
Apple disappointed me by not accepting video on 3G, forcing 3G users to buy a new 3GS.
in any case, I will buy another iPhone, and after the generation, this one somehow did not excite me. as someone already wrote above, I was expecting a joke
The 3GS is only supposed to be faster. Finally an iPhone can do what my very first dumb Nokia over 5 years old :-).
Miss - the navigation system on ordinary phones has a program and it guides you along the route with spoken words. Want to privately show… HTC Touch HD? :-)). Otherwise, I like to navigate and go for walks in nature.
When will the iPhone 3gs be sold in the Czech Republic?
thanks for the answer'
When a colleague at work showed me 3G, I completely fell for it and I don't understand how I could have lived without an iPhone. I'm waiting for 3Gs to be here, because it's probably not worth buying an older version today. I would like to ask you, is it possible to buy 3Gs in the US and use it on our networks? How about localization? I assume that it could be about 30% cheaper in the US, or am I wrong? Thanks in advance for the info.
Thanks for the info, I'll wait. I will survive the 14 days.
It is in point of fact a nice and helpful piece of info. I am satisfied that you shared this helpful information with us. Please keep us informed like this. Thanks for sharing.
