Since the sphere of virtual reality is an increasingly hot topic, even the CEO of Apple, Tim Cook, commented on it. During a conference call after announcing record financial results for the past quarter, he did so for the first time since Apple had not been involved in VR in any way until now. However, his comment did not reveal much.

“I don't think virtual reality is a 'fringe thing'. It has a lot of interesting features, applications and uses," Cook said when asked by analyst Gen Munster, who apparently found a new favorite topic. A few years before, he asked the executive director how it looks with the long-awaited new Apple TV.

But Cook's answer apparently did not satisfy him very much. The head of Apple has answered in a similar style several times in the past regarding other products, so we cannot judge whether this perhaps means that his company is already planning something in the field of VR.

Again, however, this will fuel speculation as virtual reality gains more and more attention and Apple remains one of the last major players, who has not yet delved into this area. Current - if not very revealing - mention of Tim Cook and recent hiring a leading VR specialist may indicate that Apple is indeed up to something.

Virtual reality products could eventually represent a new and important source of revenue for Apple if VR turns out to be a truly technological next step that spreads across the globe. For the first fiscal quarter of 2016, Apple announced a record profit of 18,4 billion dollars, but this fact was somewhat overshadowed by the fact that in the next quarter the company expects a decrease in iPhone sales for the first time in its history. Sales of Apple phones in 2016 may not be able to surpass those of last year, and although they will continue to be a major source of income for Apple in the years to come, the Californian giant needs to find another product that would bring a more significant portion of revenue to its coffers than iPads or Macs now .
