Adam Kos At its Galaxy Unpacked event, Samsung showed the world the Galaxy Z model series for 2022. These are the fourth generations of the Z Fold and Z Flip models, where the former is a clear productivity tool combining a smartphone and tablet, and the latter is actually just a lifestyle device that brings a pleasing clamshell form factor with a compact design.
Samsung improved in all respects, but subtly and purposefully. Since we already had the opportunity to touch the news, we can also compare it with Apple's current flagship, i.e. the iPhone 13 Pro Max. When the Galaxy Fold4 combines the worlds of phones and tablets, the Galaxy Flip4 combines nothing. It's just supposed to bring a breath of fresh air to the market of still-the-same-looking flatbreads. And it must be said that he is succeeding.

A disinterested customer will not find much difference between last year's and this year's generation. The novelty is a little smaller, has a bigger battery, redesigned joint, improved cameras and matte colors. Of course, the performance provided by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, the current leader in the field of mobile chips in the world of Android devices, also jumped. Flip4 has great potential, and the company itself expects to some extent that it will become a bestseller in the puzzle field. There is no need to argue that this should not be the case.
Zero competition
Under-the-counter and anecdotal information says that iPhone owners most often switch to Flips. It's because of Apple's boring improvements that its phones always look the same. The Flip has really brought a breath of fresh air to the mobile phone segment and so far has little competition. This is what Huawei in particular is trying to achieve here, but this company is still running into sanctions where it cannot use Google services and cannot have a 5G connection anyway, and it is also significantly more expensive than last year's and this year's Flip.
Compared to the iPhone 13 Pro Max, the Galaxy Z Flip4 is simply a more interesting phone that will grab everyone's attention. Be sure that you will really like the visuals live. From the point of view of long-term use, however, we cannot confirm this yet, that will be shown only by testing before the review.

Both phones have a 6,7" display, but the iPhone has a resolution of 2778 x 1284, while the Flip4 only has 2640 x 1080 and that in an aspect ratio of 22:9. Like the Fold4 (and the iPhone 13 Pro), it has an adaptive refresh rate from 1 to 120 Hz. It also has an external 1,9" display with a resolution of 260 x 512 pixels, with which you can use more functions. So you don't have to open the phone at all for basic actions. This was also the case at the beginning of the millennium, when this construction was gaining in popularity.

If we focus on the dimensions, the iPhone 13 Pro Max has a height of 160,8 mm, a width of 78,1 mm and a thickness of 7,65 mm, and a weight of 238 g. However, when unfolded, the Flip4 is 165,2 mm high, 71,9 .6,9 mm wide and its thickness is 84,9 mm. When closed, it is only 17,1 mm tall, on the other hand, its thickness will increase dramatically due to the hinge to 183 mm. The weight is XNUMX g.
In the end, the Flip4 is narrower, taller and thinner when open. But it will clearly make a bigger bulge in the pocket when closed. The ladies won't care though, they will wear it in a cable and the fact is that it will be a nice fashion accessory for them.

Oh, the foil
The selfie camera located in the aperture is 10MPx sf/2,2, the main one is 12MPx ultra-wide-angle sf/2,2 and 12MPx wide-angle with f1,8, which has OIS. Although it has jumped between generations in terms of parameters, it cannot quite match the Galaxy S series or the iPhone 13. The lenses protrude slightly from the body, but there is no massive protrusion around them. A higher configuration would perhaps be pointless here. Basic cameras are used for this, advertisements are not to be taken or recorded with them.

In the photos you can notice the foil over the display. This is not a temporary cover that you peel off after unpacking the phone. This is the film from the factory that you just can't peel off, and which is the biggest ailment of Samsung jigsaws. It must be present, if it is damaged you must have it replaced, however, at an authorized service center. And it will probably happen at least once, because especially in the joint area and with less careful handling, it will simply start to peel.
This is exactly what Samsung should solve as soon as possible, as well as the present glaring groove in the bend of the display. It is precisely these two things that keep him certain "toy-like” impression of the whole device, and it doesn't matter if it's a Flip or fold. Galaxy The Z Flip4 will be sold in grey, purple, gold and blue. The recommended retail price is CZK 27 for the variant with 499 GB RAM/8 GB internal memory, CZK 128 for the version with 28 GB RAM/999 GB memory and CZK 8 for the version with 256 GB RAM and 31 GB internal memory.
