It's becoming a well-worn song, but even 2017 wasn't the year to see Apple Pay arrive in the Czech Republic. So we have nothing left but to hope that we will see you next year. Apple users in compatible countries will therefore continue to be envious of the possibility of NFC payments at retailers. As of last week, Apple Pay has gone even further in the US, with the ability to send money between users within iMessage thanks to Apple Pay Cash. This feature was demonstrated by Apple in a series of instructional videos that we wrote about here. Yesterday, the company published another such video demonstrating how Apple Pay works with the new Face ID authorization interface.

In the case of Touch ID, payment was very quick and easy. All you had to do was place the iPhone next to the terminal, wait for the dialog box to pop up, and authorize the payment by touching it with your finger. The action only took a few seconds. In the case of Face ID, using it in practice will be somewhat more difficult and considerably longer. The procedure is not as straightforward as in the case of Touch ID.

As you can see in the newly published video, to authorize NFC payment, you must first "wake up" the system by double-clicking the side Power button. This activates the Apple Pay interface, where authorization via Face ID is required. Once it's done and the system recognizes the right owner, the phone will be ready to make a payment. You must then attach it to the payment terminal and the payment will be made. There are a few extra steps here compared to using Touch ID. Specifically, initializing the entire process with a double click and then picking up the phone for Face ID authorization, after which you have to hold the phone to the payment terminal. In essence, these are small things that one gets used to in practice. Compared to the previous procedure, this is an ergonomic deterioration.
