A week ago Apple released an important iOS 9.3.5 update, which patched major security holes that were only recently discovered. Now a security update has also been released for OS X El Capitan and Yosemite and Safari.

Mac owners should download a security update as soon as possible to avoid potential problems with malware infecting their machines.

As part of the update, Apple fixes authentication and memory corruption issues in OS X. Safari 9.1.3, in turn, prevents websites that contain malicious software from opening at all.

Ahmed Mansoor, who works as a human rights researcher in the United Arab Emirates, was the first to face a similar attack, which Apple is now preventing with the latest security updates. He received an SMS with a suspicious link that, if opened, would install malware on his iPhone that could jailbreak him without his knowledge.

But Mansoor sensibly did not click on the link, on the contrary, he sent the message to security analysts, who then found out what the problem was and informed Apple about the whole thing. It is therefore recommended that you download both the Mac and iOS security updates as soon as possible.
