Pixelmator for iPad received its first major update. This excellent image editing tool in version 1.1 brings a whole range of new features that are definitely worth paying attention to. The update does not only bring fixes and slight improvements, but also several new functions, many gadgets and significantly expands the support on the software and hardware side.

Among other things, a hundred and twelve new watercolor brushes have been added to Pixelmator, which will help create realistic paintings that look as if the painter painted them with classic watercolors. In addition, the painting process itself has been improved, and the new engine will offer the user up to twice as fast a response. The manual color selection tool has also been redesigned, allowing you to select colors even more accurately and precisely.

Compatibility with Photoshop has been greatly enhanced, so you'll now be able to open and edit many more image formats, including RAW, in Pixelmator. iCloud Drive is also supported, from which you can easily insert an image as a new layer. A neat feature is also the ability to bring up a preview of the brush you're currently customizing. The big news is full support for pressure sensitive styluses Adonit Jot Script, Jot Touch 4 and Jot Touch.

Pixelmator for iPad now has a default tool for inverting colors, and a number of tools have been added to increase the precision of common operations. It is now possible to regulate individual effects more sensitively or to rotate inscriptions more precisely. It is now easier to switch the application to full screen mode and the ability to open PDF from e-mail and any other applications has been added.

The developers have generally worked on how the application works with memory. Memory-related bugs have been fixed, and processes like going back a step are now much faster. The autosave feature has also been improved and a number of known bugs have been fixed. These include, for example, a problem with adding a new layer from Photo Stream, a possible crash of the Eyedropper tool when rotating the device, or problems when painting over hidden and locked layers.
