Phil Schiller, head of marketing at Apple, gave an interview to the magazine this week CNET. It was, of course, about the newly released 16″ MacBook Pro. The new model is the successor to the original 15-inch MacBook Pro, featuring a new scissor mechanism keyboard, improved speakers and a 3072 x 1920 pixel display with narrower bezels.

The new keyboard with a scissor mechanism is one of the main topics discussed in connection with the new MacBook Pro. In an interview, Schiller acknowledged that the previous butterfly mechanism of MacBook keyboards was met with mixed reactions due to quality issues. Owners of MacBooks with this type of keyboard have complained a lot about some keys not working.

In an interview, Schiller said that Apple concluded, based on user feedback, that many professionals would appreciate MacBook Pros being equipped with a keyboard similar to the standalone Magic Keyboard for the iMac. Regarding the "butterfly" keyboard, he stated that it was a benefit in some ways, and in this context he mentioned, for example, a much more stable keyboard platform. "Over the years we've improved the design of this keyboard, now we're on the third generation and a lot of people are much happier with how we've progressed," stated

Among other requests from professionals, according to Schiller, was the return of the physical Escape keyboard — its absence was, according to Schiller, the number one complaint about the Touch Bar: “If I had to rank complaints, number one would be customers who liked the physical Escape key. It was hard for a lot of people to adjust,” he admitted, adding that rather than simply removing the Touch Bar and the associated loss of benefits, Apple preferred the return of the Escape key. At the same time, a separate key for Touch ID was added to the number of function keys.

The interview also discussed the possible merger of Mac and iPad, which Schiller strongly denied and stated that the two devices will continue to be separate. “Then you'd get 'something in between,' and 'something in between' things are never as good as when they work on their own. We believe the Mac is the ultimate personal computer, and we want it to continue to do so. And we think that the best tablet is the iPad, and we will continue to follow this path." concluded.

At the end of the interview, Schiller touched on the use of Chromebooks from Google in education. He described the laptops as "cheap testing tools" that don't allow kids to succeed. According to Schiller, the best tool for learning is the iPad. You can read the interview in its entirety read here.
