Filip Brož The programmable robot Ozobot has already found its place and application in a number of educational institutions and Czech households. It was especially popular with children, for whom it offers a gateway to the world of robotics. Already second generation it was a great success and the developers are definitely not resting on their laurels. Recently, the new Ozobot Evo was released, which has been improved in all respects. The main innovation is that the robot has its own intelligence, thanks to which it can communicate with you.
You can finally drive the new Ozobot as a remote control car, but unlike classic toy cars, you have many added functions. In the packaging, which looks a bit like a doll's house with Eva, you will also find compartments with accessories in addition to the robot itself. The Ozobot itself is a bit heavier and comes with a colorful outfit, a charging microUSB cable and a set of markers for drawing ozocodes and paths.
In the door of the box, you will find a double-sided folding surface, thanks to which you can start working with Ozobot immediately after unpacking.
Control your robot
The developers of Ozobot Evo have equipped seven new sensors and sensors. In this way, it recognizes the obstacle in front of it and also better reads the color codes according to which it is guided on the game board. All the advantages of the older robots have been preserved, so even the latest Ozobot uses a unique color language, consisting of red, blue and green, to communicate. By combining these colors, each symbolizing a different instruction, you get the so-called ozocode.
This brings us to the main point - with ozocode, you completely control and program the small robot, with commands such as turn right, speed up, slow down or light up the selected color.
You can draw ozone codes on plain or hard paper. On the manufacturer's website you will also find a number of ready-made schemes, games, racing tracks and mazes. Developers also launched special portal intended for all educators who will find here a large number of teaching lessons, workshops and other activities for their students. Learning computer science will finally not be boring. Lessons are divided according to difficulty and focus, and new ones are added every month. Some lessons can even be found in the Czech language.
Personally, I like the most that I can finally control Ozobot like a remote control toy car. Everything is done using the new Ozobot Evo app, which it's free on the App Store. I control the Ozobot with a simple joystick, with up to three gears to choose from and much more. You can change the color of all LEDs and choose from preset patterns of behavior, where Evo can even reproduce various announcements, greet or imitate snoring. You can even record your own sounds into it.
Battles of the Ozobots
Another level of fun and learning can be meeting other Ozobots, because together you can organize battles or solve logical problems. If you create an account in the application, you can communicate with bots from all over the world using the OzoChat function. You can easily send greetings or movement and light renderings of emoticons, so-called Ozojis. In the application you will also find various mini-games.
With a connected iPhone or iPad, Ozobot Evo communicates via fourth-generation Bluetooth, which ensures a range of up to ten meters. The robot can run for about an hour on a single charge. You can program the Evo just like older models via the OzoBlockly web editor. The one based on Google Blockly, thanks to which even younger elementary school students can master programming.
A huge advantage of OzoBlockly is its visual clarity and intuitiveness. Individual commands are put together in the form of a puzzle using the drag & drop system, so inconsistent commands simply do not fit together. At the same time, this system allows you to combine multiple commands at one time and logically connect them to each other. You can also see at any time what your code looks like in JavaScript, the real programming language.
Open OzoBlockly in any web browser on your tablet or computer, regardless of platform. There are several levels of difficulty available, where in the simplest one you program more or less only movement or light effects, while in advanced variants more complex logic, mathematics, functions, variables and the like are involved. The individual levels will therefore suit both smaller children and high school students or even adult fans of robotics.
Once you're happy with your code, transfer it to Ozobot by pressing the minibot to the marked spot on the screen and start the transfer. This takes place in the form of rapid flashing of color sequences, which the Ozobot reads with the sensors on its underside. You don't need any cables or Bluetooth. You can then start the transferred sequence by double-pressing the Ozobot power button and immediately see your programming result.
Dance choreography
If classic programming stops being fun for you, you can try out how Ozobot can dance. Just download on iPhone or iPad the OzoGroove app, thanks to which you can change the color of the LED diode and the speed of movement on Ozobot at will. You can also create your own choreography for Ozobot to your favorite song. In the application you will also find clear instructions and several useful tips.
Last but not least, it is also necessary to calibrate the robot correctly when changing the surface. At the same time, you perform the calibration using the attached game surface or on the display of an iOS device or Mac. To calibrate, just hold down the power button for two to three seconds and then place it on the calibration surface. If everything is successful, the Ozobot will flash green.
Ozobot Evo has done well and the developers have added many interesting and useful features. If you actively use Ozobot, it is definitely worth upgrading it, which you on EasyStore.cz it will cost 3 crowns (white or titanium black color). Compared to the previous generation, the Evo costs two thousand crowns more, but it is quite adequate considering the number of novelties and improvements, as well as richer accessories. In addition, Ozobot is definitely not just a toy, but can be an excellent educational tool for schools and subjects of various orientations.

May I know why it's a shame that the website jablickar.cz is only aimed at Apple stuff? and all the time you are trying to promote (not discuss) PC ThinPad as a stuck gramophone record? nothing against Thinpad, I have it for work, but I have Mac personally, and Macbook is a different PC for people who appreciate it as much as Thinpad. Yes, if I go by raw specifications and performance, there are probably better products than Apple's. What should I pay for the 3 years I've had a Macbook, I haven't had a single crash, not to mention that I had to reinstall the system to speed up the PC, and after 3 years my Mac still has a decent price :) so I chose it myself
