Although the Dock in Mac OS is a great thing for quickly launching your favorite applications, over time, when they start to increase, the limited space of the display width is no longer enough. Individual icons start to become chaos. The solution is either the elimination of less used program icons, when programs not found in the Dock must be launched from the Applications folder or from Spotlight, or the use of a launcher. One such launcher is Overflow.

Overflow works de facto like any other folder in the Dock, which displays its contents when clicked. However, the possibilities of arranging individual items in a classic folder are very limited. Additionally, it does not allow further sorting unless you want to access the system of additional nested folders.

The Overflow application solves this problem very cleverly with a side panel within one window, where you can create individual groups of applications. You do this by right-clicking in the left part and selecting from the context menu Add New Category. In a similar way, they can be deleted with an action Remove Category. You can name each category as you like. You can change their order by dragging the mouse.

Once you have your groups created, it's time to add app icons to them. You do this by pressing a button Edit. You can add apps in two ways. Either by simply dragging the application to the right part or by pressing the button Add. After pressing it, the file selection screen will appear. Just head to the folder Applications and select the desired application. You can then move the individual icons as you wish within the Overflow window, or you can sort them alphabetically.

In addition to clicking on the icon in the Dock, Overflow can also be displayed with a global keyboard shortcut, which by default is set to the combination Ctrl+Space. If you would prefer to launch this way, the Dock icon can be removed in the settings. The application window can be adjusted to your liking in several ways. You can set the offset of the icons from each other, the font size and the color of the entire window, so that it fits your wallpaper, for example.

I've personally been using Overflow for a few weeks now and I can't say enough about it. I have dozens of applications installed on my MacBook and thanks to Overflow I have a perfect overview of them. You can find the application in the Mac App Store for €11,99.
