Apple introduced the Apple Watch Series 7 this year, and let's face it, it's not that great. Sure, a bigger display is of course nice, but it's somehow not enough. It can be seen that Apple is hitting a technological ceiling in its line and does not have much room to push its product. But a possible option would be to expand the portfolio. After all, there has been speculation about a durable and more sports-based Apple Watch since the launch of the company's smartwatch.

And that was 2015. Although we got a more sporty version of Nike, it's somehow not enough. Already with the introduction of Apple's first smart watch, a more durable variant was mentioned, which began to be speculated more in the spring this year. Optimists hoped that we would see them this year, which obviously did not happen. So the year 2022 is in play.

Apple Watch Series 8

It is certain that we will see the Apple Watch Series 8 next year. What will they be able to do? It cannot be assumed that there will be any drastic changes, which in a certain respect were brought about by this year's generation. In fact, only the increase in performance is certain, and various health functions are also being speculated on, such as blood sugar measurement using a non-invasive method. But neither will convince existing owners to trade in their current models if they are using one of the newer ranges. But that could change the very expansion of the portfolio.

Apple Watch Series Sport

Apple has worked on the durability of the Series 7 glass, claiming it has the most shatter resistance. Water resistance remained at WR50, but dust resistance according to the IP6X standard was also added. So, yes, the Apple Watch Series 7 is durable, but certainly not in the way a truly durable sports watch would be. Although their aluminum body can also withstand rough handling, its problem in case of minor defects is in aesthetics. Any scratch on the watch case just doesn't look pretty.

When we look at the portfolio of classic durable watches, the market leaders include Casio with its G-Shock series. These watches are intended for the greatest extremes and cannot be matched by any of the currently available smart watches from various manufacturers across the entire market. Even though Apple Watch is presented as a sports watch, it is far from a true sports watch. At the same time, relatively little would be enough.

New case material

Apple has flirted with a ceramic case before. The G-Shock series, however, has one made of fine resin supplemented with carbon fiber, which ensures the highest possible resistance while maintaining a low weight. If we take into account the currently resistant glass, Apple would actually need quite a bit to come up with a truly durable sports watch. If the glass is as durable as they claim, it would be enough to replace the aluminum with a material similar to that used in Casio watches.

The result would be a light and durable watch in every way. The question is whether it would then be necessary to start from the Series 7 generation. It would certainly be suitable to re-encase the Series 3 as well, although the question is whether Apple would like to add some unique sports functions that this generation would not be sufficient for. It is also necessary to add that the company should work on endurance. Extreme athletes, who would certainly take the novelty for granted, will certainly not be satisfied with the one-day one.

If Apple is really working on a durable watch and is planning to introduce it, it does not mean that we should wait for it until September 2022. If it is based on a current model, it can present its novelty already in the spring. And he would be the first major manufacturer to do such a thing. Thanks to this, it could be a pioneer in the field of truly sporty smart watches.
