At its Monday October Keynote, Apple also presented, among other things, the third generation of its wireless AirPods headphones. The history of the so-called "pigs" from the workshop of the Cupertino company is quite long, so let's recall it in today's article.

1000 songs in your pocket, white headphones in your ears

Apple customers could enjoy the so-called gems as early as 2001, when the company came out with its first iPod. The package of this player included Apple Earbuds. These in-ear headphones were round in shape and made of white plastic, with wireless connectivity that users could only dream of at the time. The headphones were light, but some users complained about their discomfort, lower resistance, or even easier charging. A change in this direction only occurred with the arrival of the first iPhone in 2007. At that time, Apple began to pack not "round" Earbuds with its smartphones, but more elegant Earpods, which it equipped not only with a volume and playback control, but also with a microphone.

Without jack and without wires

Earpods have been an obvious part of the iPhone package for a relatively long time. Users quickly got used to them, and the less demanding ones used Earpods as the only headphones for listening to music and as a headset for making voice calls. Another change came in 2016, when Apple introduced its iPhone 7. The new product line of Apple smartphones completely lacked the traditional headphone jack, so the Earpods that came with these models were equipped with a Lightning connector.

But the addition of the Lightning port wasn't the only change that Apple introduced at that fall's Keynote. There was also the launch of the first generation of wireless AirPods.

From jokes to success

The first generation AirPods were something that no one had seen before in a way. They weren't the world's first wireless headphones by any means, and—let's be honest—they weren't even the world's best wireless headphones. But Apple made no effort to pretend that audiophiles are the target group for the new AirPods. In short, the new wireless headphones from Apple were supposed to bring users the joy of movement, freedom, and simply listening to music or talking with friends.

After their presentation, the new wireless headphones were understandably taken aback by various Internet pranksters who took aim at their appearance or price. It is certainly not possible to say that the first generation of AirPods were downright unsuccessful headphones, but they really gained notoriety in the pre-Christmas or Christmas season of 2018. AirPods were sold like on a treadmill, and in March 2019, Apple already introduced the second generation your wireless headphones.

The second generation AirPods offered, for example, the option to purchase a charging box with wireless charging, longer battery life, support for voice activation of the Siri assistant, and other functions. But a number of people in connection with this model spoke more about the evolution of the first generation than about a completely new model. The third-generation AirPods, which Apple presented at Monday's Keynote, are already trying to prove to us that Apple has come a long way since the days of the first generation.

In addition to a new design, the latest generation of wireless headphones from Apple also offers Spatial Audio support, improved sound quality and battery life, a redesigned charging box, and resistance to water and sweat. In this way, Apple has brought its basic model of wireless headphones slightly closer to the Pro model, but at the same time it has managed to maintain a lower price and a design that is praised by everyone who, for whatever reason, does not like silicone "plugs". Let's be surprised how AirPods will evolve in the future.
