In Apple's portfolio, you can currently find a fairly diverse range of different headphones, whether it's AirPods or models from the Beats product line. Headphones have been part of the offer of the Cupertino company for quite a long time - let's remember together today the birth of Earbuds and the gradual evolution towards the current AirPods models. This time we will focus exclusively on the headphones that Apple bundled with its products and on AirPods.

2001: Earbuds

In 2001, Apple introduced the iPod with the typical white headphones, which today no longer amaze anyone, but at the time of its introduction it enjoyed quite a lot of popularity. With an exaggeration, it could be said that it was a kind of symbol of social status - whoever wore Earbuds most likely also owns an iPod. Earbuds saw the light of day in October 2001, were equipped with a 3,5 mm jack (this was not to change for many years), and had a microphone. Newer versions also received control elements.

2007: Earbuds for the iPhone

In 2007, Apple introduced its first iPhone. The package also included Earbuds, which were virtually identical to the models that came with the iPod. It was equipped with controls and a microphone, and the sound was also improved. The headphones usually worked without problems, the user was mostly only "troubled" by the insidious tangling of the cables.

2008: White in-ear headphones

AirPods Pro are not the first headphones from Apple to feature silicone tips and an in-ear design. In 2008, Apple introduced white wired in-ear headphones that were equipped with silicone round plugs. It was supposed to be a premium version of the classic Earbuds, but it didn't warm up too quickly on the market, and Apple withdrew them from sale relatively soon.

2011: Earbuds and Siri

In 2011, Apple introduced its iPhone 4S, which included the digital voice assistant Siri for the first time. The package of the iPhone 4S also included a new version of Earbuds, the controls of which were equipped with a new function - you could activate voice control by long pressing the playback button.

2012: Earbuds are dead, long live EarPods

With the arrival of the iPhone 5, Apple has again changed the way the included headphones look. Headphones called EarPods saw the light of day. It was characterized by a new shape, which may not have suited everyone at first, but which was not tolerated by users who did not like the round shape of Earbuds or in-ear headphones with silicone plugs.

2016: AirPods (and EarPods without a jack) arrive

In 2016, Apple said goodbye to the 3,5mm headphone jack on its iPhones. Along with this change, he started adding classic wired EarPods to the aforementioned headphones, which were, however, equipped with a Lightning connector. Users could also purchase a Lightning to Jack adapter. In addition, the first generation of wireless AirPods in a charging case and with a characteristic design also saw the light of day. At first, AirPods were the target of numerous jokes, but their popularity quickly grew.

2019: AirPods 2 are coming

Three years after the introduction of the first AirPods, Apple introduced the second generation. AirPods 2 was equipped with an H1 chip, users could also choose between a version with a classic charging case or a case supporting Qi wireless charging. Second-generation AirPods also offered Siri voice activation.

2019: AirPods Pro

At the end of October 2019, Apple also introduced the 1st generation AirPods Pro headphones. It was partially similar to the classic AirPods, but the design of the charging case was slightly different, and the headphones were also equipped with silicone plugs. Unlike traditional AirPods, it offered, for example, a noise canceling function and a permeability mode.

2021: AirPods 3rd generation

The 1rd generation AirPods, which Apple introduced in 3, were also equipped with the H2021 chip. However, they underwent a slight design change and significantly improved sound and functions. It offered touch control with a pressure sensor, surround sound, and IPX4 class resistance. In some ways, it was similar to AirPods Pro, but it was not equipped with silicone plugs - after all, like none of the models of the classic AirPods series.

2022: AirPods Pro 2nd generation

The second generation of AirPods Pro was introduced in September 2022. The 2nd generation AirPods Pro were equipped with the Apple H2 chip and featured improved active noise cancellation, better battery life, and also featured a new charging case. Apple added a new, extra-small pair of silicone tips to the package, but they didn't fit the first-generation AirPods Pro.
