Apple filed a statement with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission this month detailing, among other things, the cost of protecting its CEO, Tim Cook, over the course of last year. The relevant amount was 310 thousand dollars, i.e. roughly 6,9 million crowns.

For comparison, Wired magazine also reported the amount spent by other large companies to protect their directors. Amazon, for example, spent 1,6 million dollars (more than 35 million crowns) to protect its boss Jeff Bezos. Oracle spent a similar amount for its CEO Larry Ellison for the same services. The protection of Sundar Pichai cost the Alphabet company more than 600 thousand dollars (over 14 million crowns).

The security of the heads of large companies was not cheap even in the year before last. Intel spent 2017 million dollars (over 1,2 million crowns) in 26 to protect its former director Brian Krzanich. In this regard, the security of Mark Zuckerberg is not too cheap either, for whose protection Facebook paid 2017 million dollars (over 7,3 million crowns) in 162.

At the same time, in 2013, Facebook's mentioned expenses amounted to "only" 2,3 million dollars, but in connection with scandals such as Cambridge Analytica, the potential threat to Zuckerberg's security also increased. According to Arnette Heintze, director and co-founder of the Chicago-based security firm Hillard Heintze, the amount nevertheless ranks among the highest costs spent on protecting the directors of large American companies. "According to what I read in the media about Facebook, this is an adequate level of costs," stated Heintze.

Apple has spent significantly higher amounts on Cook's protection in recent years than in 2018. In 2015, for example, it was 700 dollars.
