The benefits and risks of sideloading
Before we dive into the original question, let's briefly summarize the benefits and risks of sideloading. As we already indicated above, the advantages are quite clear. Sideloading results in significantly greater freedom, as users no longer have to be limited to the official app store. On the other hand, this also puts security at risk, at least in a certain sense. In this way, there is a risk of malware getting onto the user's device, which the apple user downloads completely voluntarily, thinking that it is a serious application.
But it is important to understand how something like this can happen. At first glance, it may seem that something like this practically does not happen. But the opposite is true. Allowing sideloading means that some developers can completely leave the mentioned App Store, which gives users no other option than to look for their software elsewhere, probably on their official website or other stores. This puts less experienced users at risk, who may fall victim to a scam and come across a copy that looks and acts like the original app, but may actually be the aforementioned malware.

According to the latest information brought by the well-known Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, who is also considered one of the most accurate and respected leakers, iOS 17 will bring the possibility of sideloading for the first time. Apple is supposed to respond to the pressure of the EU. So what will actually change? As we have already mentioned several times, Apple users will gain unprecedented freedom, when they will no longer be limited to the official App Store. They could download or purchase their applications from practically anywhere, which would depend mainly on the developers themselves and many other factors.

In a way, the developers themselves can celebrate, for whom more or less the same applies. In theory, they will not be dependent on Apple and will be able to choose their own channels as a method of distribution, thanks to which the aforementioned fees may no longer apply to them. On the other hand, this does not mean that everyone will suddenly leave the App Store. There is absolutely no danger of such a thing. It is necessary to take into account that it is the App Store that represents the perfect solution, for example, for small and medium-sized developers. In that case, Apple will take care of the distribution of the application, its updates, and at the same time provide the payment gateway.
