The March Keynote, at which Apple was supposed to theoretically present the successor to the iPhone SE and other news, has been speculated since last year. According to available reports, the most likely date of the presentation was the last day of March. Sources close to Apple confirmed this week that the event was indeed planned. In connection with the current situation, however, it will not be held in the end.

Front Page Tech's Jon Prosser posted on Twitter last weekend, citing a trusted anonymous source, that the March Keynote has been canceled. Forbes magazine editor David Phelan also came with a similar message on Tuesday, to whom sources close to Apple confirmed that the conference "will not take place in any case". The Cult of Mac server also confirmed this fact that afternoon.

Recently, the conferences organized by Apple are most often held in the Steve Jobs Theater in the area of the new Apple Park. It is located in Cupertino, California, under the jurisdiction of the Santa Clara Department of Public Health. This union recently issued an ordinance banning mass gatherings in the county. The relevant regulation entered into force on March 11 and should last for at least three weeks - so it also covers the date on which the March Apple Keynote was supposed to take place.

Server Cult of Mac reported that Apple management had been concerned about the Keynote event recently, and the aforementioned regulation was a major factor in the company's final decision to cancel the event. In connection with the ongoing epidemic of COVID-19, there is also a high probability that the release of new products may be delayed - but in this regard, it depends very much on how events will develop further. It is also possible that the products that were supposed to be presented at the March Keynote will be presented quietly by Apple and accompanied by an official press release only.
