There are never enough educational apps for the iPad. Especially if they are completely in the Czech language, including videos, as is the case with the very well-crafted application for children, World of Animals.

Every parent surely knows how many different questions children have and how they are very inquisitive during childhood and always discover something new. From a practical point of view, every parent hears questions like how does this animal do, what does it like, where does it live, etc. For this purpose, there is an interactive application that will give your children all the answers to their questions and much more.

I don't have children yet, but I still tested Animal World in practice. I work with people with intellectual disabilities, so unfortunately some of my clients are mentally at the level of preschoolers. The app runs on an iPad, so I took one working device and showed Animal World to select clients. I just gave them basic instructions about what it is, how the app is controlled and what it can do. Subsequently, they managed to "play" themselves without my help, the World of Animals intrigued them.

You immerse yourself in the World of Animals by choosing one of six environments, in which you will always find different animals belonging to the chosen location - savannah, forest, sea, farm, ponds and rivers or jungle. With the theme music, you then move to the selection of the animals themselves. There is a video prepared for each of them in the World of Animals, and the child then has two other options - to have the video played with the sound the given animal makes, or to view a short story about it. The information is in Czech and spoken in a pleasant female voice that is easy to listen to.

The entire application is very simple and clear to use, and I firmly believe that every child can easily handle it. The environment is completely interactive and I can't fault the application in terms of graphics and design. With some spoken captions, I also found direct questions that encourage the child to communicate with the parent about the video and the animal and to ask a specific question. The child will definitely stay with the application for some time, but again, as with all educational applications, it is important that parents work with the children afterwards and talk to them or pass on additional information. The world of animals can also be used in kindergartens or special education.

Animal World is a great learning tool for all kinds of animals, but I see much more potential in such an application if some other educational elements were added in the future, such as interactive quizzes, adding words to the text or thematic coloring books (you can download them on the developer's website). In the current version, you can download World of Animals in the App Store in two versions, the free one offers only one environment, the savannah, and the full version costs less than one euro.
