It has probably happened to you that when you copied text from the web or, for example, from a Word document into an e-mail, the text remained in its original format after pasting. You may have dealt with this situation by completely highlighting the entire text and trying to remove the formatting in various ways. But the way to insert text without formatting is actually much simpler.

Customize the style

The way that the vast majority of users choose is to select the entire text, right-click and select "Remove formatting" or "Paste and apply appropriate style". But it's easy to make pasting without formatting the default option on a Mac, which saves you a lot of time, effort, and nerves.

As any new Apple computer owner will soon discover, the default option on the Mac is to paste while preserving the original format of the copied text. This can be an advantage, for example, when inserting a bulleted list, inserting tables, and the like.

Most of the time, however, many of us work more with words, and we do not care that, for example, the name and price of a product, copied from an e-shop, appear in the body of an e-mail in a bright red color, bold design and in size 36. In these In most cases, we use the mentioned option "Insert and apply matching style", which is available either by right-clicking on the text or in the menu in the Edit tab (in most applications). When using this option, the format of the inserted text adapts to the style of the environment in which it is inserted.

Shortcut and default settings

When inserting and customizing a style, how many of you noticed that this option can also be done using a keyboard shortcut? This is a key combination ⌥ + ⌘ + V, or if you want alt/Option + Command/cmd + V. If you use this shortcut, you will definitely appreciate the following instructions:

  • Open on your Mac System Preferences.
  • Click on Keyboard.
  • Click on Abbreviations -> Application shortcuts.
  • Click on the "+” below the shortcut list window.
  • Type in the name field Paste and apply the appropriate style.
  • Enter as a keyboard shortcut ⌘V.

Done. Whenever you insert text from now on, its format will automatically adapt to the style of the environment you are inserting it into. To insert while preserving the original style, use the same instructions, just write in the title Insert and use as a shortcut ⇧⌘V.
