We've had a few cases here in the past where a seemingly innocuous message caused systems to freeze or completely crash. Similar incidents happen on both Android and iOS platforms. Not so long ago, instructions for creating a special message circulated around the web, which she blocked the entire communication block in iOS. Now something similar has appeared. A message that will really jam your device after reading it. The message also has a very similar effect on macOS.

The author of YouTube channel EverythingApplePro was the first to come up with the information, who made a video about this new report (see below). This is a message called Black Dot, and its danger lies in the fact that it can overwhelm the processor of the device that receives it. As such, the message looks completely harmless, because at first glance it only contains a black dot. However, in addition to it, there are thousands of invisible Unicode characters in the message, which will cause a complete collapse of the device that tries to read them.

When you receive a message on your phone, its processor will try to read the content of the message, but the thousands of used and hidden characters will overwhelm it so much that the system may crash completely. The situation can be replicated on both iPhones and iPads and even some Macs. This news initially spread on the Android platform within the WhatsApp application, but very quickly spread to macOS/iOS as well. It can be expected that this bug will also work on other operating systems from Apple.

System freezes and possible crashes happen on both iOS 11.3 and iOS 11.4. Since information about this issue is spreading all over the Internet, we can expect Apple to prepare a hotfix to stop this exploit (and similar ones). There aren't too many ways to avoid acceptance and reading (and all the subsequent vicissitudes) yet. There are methods that are always used in similar cases, and that is to go to Messages via the 3D Touch gesture and delete the entire conversation, or delete it via the iCloud settings.
