Yesterday, Samsung introduced its new flagship, the Galaxy S III, with which it will try to compete with other smartphones, especially the iPhone. Even with the new model, Samsung was not shy about copying Apple, especially in software.
The phone itself does not deviate from the series in terms of specifications, even if it is probably the largest phone on the market in terms of diagonal, if we do not count the Samsung Galaxy Note. 4,8”. Super AMOLED with a resolution of 720 x 1280 is the new standard of the Korean company. Otherwise, in the body we find a quad-core processor with a frequency of 1,4 GHz (however, most Android applications cannot use them effectively), 1 GB of RAM and an 8 megapixel camera. In terms of appearance, the S III resembles the first Samsung Galaxy S model. So there is no innovation in the design, and it seems that, unlike, for example, Nokia (see Lumia 900), Samsung is unable to come up with a new original design that would attract attention.
However, it is not the phone itself that makes us mention it at all, nor the theoretical possibility that it could be an iPhone "killer". Samsung is already famous for being a significant inspiration to Apple, especially in terms of hardware. This time, however, he started copying the software, with three functions in particular directly striking and calling for a lawsuit from Apple. The features mentioned below are part of the new version of the Nature UX graphics framework, formerly TouchWiz. Samsung is said to have been inspired by nature, and when the phone is turned on, for example, you will be greeted with the sound of running water, which is more reminiscent of someone defecating.
S Voice
It is a voice assistant that can do a lot of things for you using commands without having to interact with the display. There's no need to just use preset phrases, S Voice should be able to understand the spoken word, recognize the context from it, and then do what you actually want. For example, it can stop the alarm, play songs, send SMS and e-mails, write events in the calendar or find out the weather. S Voice is available in six world languages – English (UK and US), German, French, Spanish, Italian and Korean.
Of course, you immediately think of the similarity with the voice assistant Siri, which is the main draw of the iPhone 4S. It is evident that Samsung wants to feed off of Siri's success and has gone so far as to largely copy the graphical interface, including the main icon for activation. It's hard to say how S Voice will stand up against Apple's solution in terms of functionality, but it's obvious where Samsung drew from.
All Share Cast
With the new Galasy S III, Samsung also introduced various AllShare sharing options, including Cast. This is phone image mirroring via a wireless Wi-Fi network. The image is transmitted in a ratio of 1:1, in the case of video it is then expanded to the entire screen. The transmission is provided by a protocol called Wi-Fi Display, and the image is transmitted to the TV using a device that must be purchased separately. It's a small dongle that fits in the palm of your hand and outputs up to 1080p.
The whole thing is reminiscent of AirPlay Mirroring and Apple TV, which is an intermediary between an iOS device and a television. It is thanks to AirPlay Mirroring that Apple's television is becoming more and more popular, and Samsung obviously did not want to be left behind and offered a similar function with a similar device.
MusicHub
To existing service MusicHub Samsung threw in a feature Scan & Match. It will scan your chosen location on the disk and make the songs that match the collection on Music Hub with about seventeen million songs available from the cloud. Smart Hub is not only for new phone, but also for Smart TV, Galaxy Tablet and other newer devices from Samsung. The service costs $9,99 per month for access from one device or $12,99 for up to four devices.
There's a clear parallel here with iTunes Match, which was introduced last year at the launch of iCloud during WWDC 2011. However, iTunes Match can work with songs it doesn't find in its database, it costs "only" $24,99 a year. You can access the service from any device linked to an iTunes account on which iTunes Match is activated.
Of course, the Samsung Galaxy S III also contains other interesting functions that were not copied from Apple, and some of them certainly have potential. For example, the one where the phone recognizes by your eyes if you are reading something on the display and if so, it will not turn off the backlight. However, the presentation during which the new Galaxy S was introduced was rather a boring charade, where individual participants on stage tried to show as many functions as possible at once. Not even the London Symphony Orchestra, which musically accompanied the entire event, saved it. Even the first ad, which makes the phone a kind of big brother that watches your every step, does not have a particularly positive effect.
It will be interesting to see how the 8,6 mm thin phone with a 4,8” screen will hold up in a direct fight with the iPhone, especially with this year's model, which will probably be presented in early autumn.

How else… LOLsung never comes up with anything original :)
They're just fucking idiots.
Where did you find out that Android 4 can't use a quad core processor?
Android is based on Linux (kernel) and multi-processor support is a matter of course. It was disabled by default until version 2.2, but manufacturers could activate it (e.g. LG in the system for the 2X model). Since version 2.3, multi-processor support is enabled by default.
I'm amused by the way Apple users used to slander the large display of new phones, that 3.5 inches is the maximum suitable screen size, because Steve decided... and now? iphone 5 will probably have a bigger display and apple speakers are silent ;]
otherwise, I was waiting for the galaxy release (not that I was planning to buy it, ip4 still works well), and I think it's the same disappointment as with the iphone4s release. .. the design is beautiful, you can do it a little, but a normal person won't use it anyway, the same functions that I would use if ever, then immediately after buying the device or about once a year...
perfect phone for me
- the size is slightly smaller than iPhone4 (the bottom with the HW button is bitten off
- hw button on the side of the phone at the height of the thumb, but the primary control mode without the hw button on the display
- display across the entire width of the mobile phone (i.e. not with the iPhone, which is 1.8 cm thick at each end, which would slightly increase the display to 4 inches (which would be space for software buttons/notifications
-rear display with e-ink for displaying the feed, notification and preset applications, controlled only with the help of the sound buttons (as the iPhone 4 now has), i.e. the possibility of cleaning the selected (preset text) without maxing out the mobile phone
-mobile made of 1 piece of liquid metal/plastic and double-sided glass
-somewhere from the top/side of the mobile phone there are still ideal diodes, for checking with a view from a remote control/purse/packaging, etc.
I don't need 4 cores, I don't need a mega-sized display, and when I'm already dragging something, I don't want to drag a piece of plastic that has no function (typically the corners of a mobile phone without buttons/display and the like...
iphone 5 will not have a larger display, just because it is being talked about does not mean that it will be so. there is also talk of changing the docking connector - I also doubt that. before the release of ipad 2, there were so many rumors that it would be 7″ and so on.. understand that the fact that there is speculation about it does not mean anything before the release
well, whatever it is, these were the 2 most anticipated mobile phones... and both companies disappointed me
technologies such as Eink (also backlit) or a touch display with feedback (for better perception of key presses) have been around for years, they should definitely be used (specifically eink would be great), but companies have rested on their laurels and instead of useful things they come up with crap like Siri and releases an unreliable prototype as some new function, just because people who jump on it are idiots...
I'm not even talking about the sensor options that today's mobile phones are overpaid for... (for example, it would be possible to grant that the mobile phone recognizes from the sensor that you pick it up and want to use it = it unlocks itself, technologically it is very similar to unlocking with the help of a webcam and face detection, only that less current and it would be even better ;]
just incompetent idiots in companies who had a few good ideas but have already burned out and don't come up with anything new... something like nokia in the last 5 years
how wise you are…
He is not silent, read the posts on MacRumors. Many of them are against enlargement, but of course today many of them would also welcome enlargement. I've always been in favor of bigger ones, that's why I have a Galaxy S, but the joke is that 4″ is really too much for regular transmission, so I'd rather take a tablet with me. And I don't understand if I wanted a bigger one, why not choose a Note. Samsung's policy is strange and the support is minimal, or rather minimal
It is not a technical use, but a real one. Agree with the author. Although it's true, Android phones behave more like a classic PC, so they need a lot of power to run properly.
Android had a voice assistant long before Siri (I think it's better than Siri in some ways, worse in others), so I wouldn't get too attached to it, image sharing via Wi-Fi has also been around for a long time... + talk about originality in a fight with Apple, which basically it takes not so successful ideas from abroad and pushes them through marketing as news... which is of course the biggest plus Apple doesn't care about (taking good ideas and combining them into one device will logically create an excellent phone)
The design must be left to them. He is really beautiful, otherwise it is impossible to disagree with Siri
Good ad, there are "a lot" of new phone features in it :D
I don't understand why they still make such a similarity with ios, why did they copy the graphical interface, when they know very well that the coolies will attack them.. ? btw what is the core in phone 4 for? just enough for the battery to be discharged in half a day..
I don't know that there is still so much animosity between people who have an iPhone and vice versa. I had a 3GS for two years and was extremely happy. I was waiting for the new iPhone, hoping it would have a bigger screen, because I personally like more space. It didn't happen and that's why I went for the Galaxy S2... and I can honestly say that I'm extremely satisfied again. Now I was waiting for a change, what Samsung will come up with with the Galaxy SIII and the same happened as in the case of the 4S... the only thing that is a bomb is wireless charging. Each device has its own. And I don't know why I should insult what I don't have right now?!
So if Apple comes out with an iP5 and it has a bigger display, I'll switch to Apple again. I can get by with a 4″ flat, I would also take the 4.8″ with SII, because if I buy an iP5 I will also go for an iPad, so I don’t have to sharpen the screen on my mobile, because I will choose the device that suits me the most at that time.
I just don't know why you're all making such a fuss?! That it irritates people...that's normal here in the Czech Republic for everything, but that even the editors on the websites are sad. If only because if one takes it with a cool head and goes to the websites of both parties, 60% of all articles read how one throws dirt on the other! At the same time, Samsung and Apple can only help each other improve their products thanks to this pushing!
Wake Up! :-)
There is more discussion (flaming) under the articles, the article is more visible, more read... Why else publish an article about GEsk on a portal that is otherwise exclusively devoted to Apple products? In addition, using sentences like this: "However, it's not the phone itself that makes us mention it at all, nor the theoretical possibility that it could be a great competitor to the iPhone..." will spice up the discussion nicely. I understand why it's done, but I don't think it's fair to read the reactions of authors claiming that it isn't so. Maybe even the word conspiracy could catch on, no seriously, it was already fun :-) I have an Android phone, an iOS tablet, and both platforms have something to offer. Samsung copies and will copy, but to think that a voice assistant is something that would not appear is odd. Maybe I should be fair and say that it's not easy for authors, because the content has to be created and it has to be readable, and how to present it "without effects" so that they don't get lost in the competition?!
authors translate articles from abroad... and even I don't think they are some kind of demented and don't know that the articles they read are biased... but as long as traffic drives it...
For the sake of interest, I will describe the analogy of how the entire article was created:
I was watching the Vegecast (approx. 2h podcast of The Verge server) where they talked about the news of the last week and mentioned the GS3 presentation from that day. In doing so, they pointed out several similarities with Apple and a poor presentation. With that, I checked out Twitter and looked at the reactions to the new phone. I then spent about 1,5 hours reading various sources to have the exact copy information I write about in the article. I ended up watching the bulk of the London presentation to make sure the presentation was really that bad and that all the information was correct (for example, different sources reported a different number of languages in S Voice, so I went directly from the video for this one).
so you're just so interested :] and that's why it's so funny :D
I'm the editor of Apple magazine - of course I'm somewhat biased.
I like that you admit it, on the other hand, I think that the informational value of the article is quite low, but only part of the information is selected
in my opinion, the more he gave, the more clear it is that the iPhone is not such a top phone as it used to be and that it has competition
I would appreciate an article with a full comparison of the price/function/parameter of a mobile phone with an iPhone (and maybe even visitors to the apple store, which do not necessarily have to be fans, but only potential buyers)
I see no reason why it should not have competition. He always had it, because the phone is primarily about use, and some people don't even want a trend-driven smartphone. Unfortunately, there are many who don't even know it because they are under pressure from marketing. As I wrote above, each phone has something to offer, or platform, and after trying it out, it will be reflected in the small details, which are not written about much in the comparison of mobile devices.
On the contrary, it shows that it is still TOP if it is imitated and constantly mentioned :) The fact that Samsung will add the same functions later and does not have the best-selling phone will make it a leader.
Yes, the presentation was lousy, even Samsung fans tend to agree.
With my iPh4s, after reading the sms, I just put the phone to my ear and say call, and Siri immediately calls the sender, so what's new in the Jamtung??? ;-)
um, when the first iPhone was released in 2007, they called it a new phone... and it could call the same as phones from 1993,... so what was the fruit of the new one?
stupidly
it had a display that could be controlled with fingers, which everyone said was impossible, and that we needed a stylus... I think it was enough :) it was fast, it didn't work even on my iPhone 2G!
yes, the difference between the capacitive/resistive display... the whole iphone 1 ;]
you are right, that is, the touch technology was not invented by Apple, but it was not used in mobile phones, so it can be considered as a small innovation there (or copied by Apple from the last manufacturers of devices with a touch display, depending on how you look at it)... the device didn't have the last things, or copied them from the last mobile phone manufacturer
(not that it would piss anyone off, but it's fair to mention it when people already hate Samsung copying)
The only thing that bothers me in today's world is, perhaps the lack, but the incomplete functionality of operating systems. MacOS and iOS have their faults, they are different from others but still less than the competition. The main thing is that iOS doesn't crash (I've never had an iPhone crash in 4 years), it looks beautiful, the biggest emphasis is on design and optimization.
When they create something, some kind of system that trumps iOS and the mobile phone will be even more beautiful - I'm in for it - but there's nothing like that for me yet.
BTW: And you Sdsds, please chill
so if the incomplete functionality of operating systems bothers you the most in today's world... that must be bothering you, right? :] damn, how can you even sleep :D
The author should add a little more objectivity and less evil to his article...
I have everything from apple - I switched from win and nokia and I just love apple, no matter whether I like it or not, Samsung is about the only competitor of the iPhone, and as it says in the article above - a little more objectivity and less bad guys. Long live Apple!!
:)
today I saw a person making a phone call for the first time with this hybrid between a tablet and a phone. he was holding something that resembled a chopping board in his hand and was talking into it. then he rambled on about it for about 15 minutes and told a completely disgusting young lady that the bus just ran her over. Thank you, I don't want an Android with a display the size of a pre-election billboard. As for size and usability ;)
I forgot to tell you that when he put it in his pants and left, he looked like he was holding a stool.
Applejacks will always gossip and shout when they don't like a thing. God forbid anything better than their bitten apple.
of course the SG III is objectively the best phone and it's better than the iP4S. but this website is about apple and that's why the article focuses on what they have in common - and it must be recognized that the presented functions are very clearly inspired by apple
But I think it's good - that's where the competition comes from, and it's only good for users if each other implements the best functions (for example, iOS quite clearly and shamelessly copied the Notification center from Android). if apple had no competition, thanks to its huge profits, it could easily "tax" news and offer minimal innovations.
if Samsung takes over all Apple's gadgets, it's only good, because Apple will be constantly pushed to bring something new every year. and that's good.
I like apple products, but I don't quite understand the emotional commitment to this corporation, as if it were a football team. I don't really care what Apple's profits are, and to be honest, I'm not very happy about the mega-success of the iPhone and iPad
why? they are nice products, but the large annual increase in sales pushes Apple into the role of caution and rather marketing than innovation. innovation is risky. for example, iP4s - yes, the same development as with 3G / 3GS, the world has changed and if back then they were competing with a couple of primitive androids, now samsung / htc are pushing very good phones every time. I am not in favor of a rapid upgrade every year, but the situation is that at the moment Samsung offers parameters that are worth considering, but I would like it from Apple, because I already use their ecosystem
and above all, MAC is a priority for me and less and less attention is paid to it, especially in the PRO line – I don't like the overall trend of iOSification and Apple is no longer able to massively simplify even professional devices/applications.
i'm fine with the success of the ipod / iphone / ipad, but only as long as it doesn't affect the mac in any way. and this "deal" starts to be more and more consumed by the iPad. How long has it been since the mac pro update?
So you chose the only copied function, but the fact that Android is already rough from the ground up is rather a joke, right? Yes, it's good, it's great for the customer, but as a businessman you'd be out of your skin :D
The fact that OS X is being simplified has its justification and someone's vision. Time will tell if it is correct. Absolutely, but they can't stand still and wait for someone to do what and then just copy it. Blaming Apple for something for which it is the leader today is nonsense.
I like the new Samsung and I own one, but they are really embarrassing, it's a shame. But most people don't know and don't ask...they just buy what is offered.
Of course, I don't own the new Samsung, but the first S also imitated iOS, so I liked it, but at that time I didn't have much information about Apple. The fact is that Samsung did a good job. Thanks to him, I know more about Apple and I already own a few of his products from Samsung, I still only have the one :) So don't insult him again.
Jamtung-not even free! God, the design of the phone for 1200 CZK. Comparing this to the iPhone is an atrocity! Rather than this, I'd rather get this for 477 CZK from Vodafone. Really. If this is supposed to be Apple's competition, then I'm going to buy Apple shares, because Homo Sapiens can NEVER buy this.
I'm not obsessed with Apple, I only use win on Aira, but this shit from Jamzhong - it's a joke, isn't it?
Jeezusmarjaaá'' how can someone buy this!!!
that's how you showed up, you smartass
I'll wait until they present the iP 5, but I'm already curious what will be said here if it includes, for example, wireless charging, eye tracking with the front camera or a 4 core (Apple A6) :-)
Nothing will be said because Apple owns the patents for it a long time ago, which means they already thought of it a long time ago, they are just working on how to make it work as best as possible, if it will be useful to them at all.
Samsung is just copying. He always did it that way. I would never buy a Samsung, not because I'm an iSheep, but because Samsung is stealing. And I don't support stealing.
and what did they steal?
do you need to attack a mobile phone? as far as I know, Samsung made phones before Apple
or the function of the mobile phone regarding writing SMS and sending email? again, apple arrived there from the second (i.e. he copied it from someone)
and so you have a lot of things...
with the first iPhone from 2007, there were simply XX things that were more or less copied (at least in terms of concept or design) from the competition... and of course apple came up with some of its own things and the competition copies those in turn...
but the vast majority of things, as it happens, were used about 10-15 years ago in some prehistoric device that became shitty (but had the technology you say is stolen)... and that's also why Apple can't patent such things, and that's also why they didn't listen Apple's complaint about the things mentioned in the article... it simply cannot be taken as theft
You're probably here... aren't you? First, that they stole the idea to make a phone... I've never heard more stupidity. And that the first iPhone copied something in terms of design?? APPLE WITH THE IPHONE 2G WAS THE FIRST TO COME UP WITH SUCH A PHONE CONCEPT, BOTH DESIGN AND CONTROL AND THEN EVERYONE COPIES FROM THAT!
How could anyone write this…
I won't argue with you if you don't understand the text
MUSHROOMS WITH VOCATE !!! I myself use an iPhone from the 3G model series. I'm crazy, I always have everything in the first place at home and I left almost one flat on iTunes (music, apps)
The truth is that the iPhone today is a long outdated platform, that phone has a small display, it can't do anything unique. Technologically, it has long been surpassed by both Samsung and HTC (I mean 3D display). The only and this is a huge advantage and edge that the iPhone has is the development background. Because the iPhone 4S itself can't basically do anything miraculous, it can't really do anything and it can't do a lot of things out of the box - it's such a nice "paperweight" - but only until we grind into iTunes, THAT'S ANOTHER SONG THEN!
So if Samsung had developer support (which it probably won't have), APPLE would have to work a lot on the "hardware". If you are upset that I write nonsense, then I have to ask why is CYDIA so successful? Why probably? Since APPLE is (unfortunately) not open and inclined to the user who wants to have their iPhone individual, we have to have it the way they want in APPLE. But why is that? Why are developers pushed into a corner? Objectively, it bothers me to use the iPhone today, but I use so much shared data via iCloud, MobileMe that I don't want to switch to another platform, but GOOGLE would provide everything for me, but who is going to redo it...
Whoever shouts that the iPhone is the best should think and correct this statement like this: the iPhone is not the best, but it has the BEST developers, they are the ones who make the iPhone what you think it is...
I support stealing, but NEVER!!
It's nice, but it's definitely not the kind of device I want. It certainly doesn't stick to the iPhone yet, and it will be difficult for people to convince stores to have it.
After all, this is not about who invented what X years ago and it was not very usable. This is an obvious imitation of what works now and how it should be done. After all, let them borrow what someone invented X years ago and adapt it according to their current times if they can. Here it is evident that they cannot do it, that they simply imitate. You can also use someone's photo for free after a few years, but until then you have to pay for its use to the owner who created it or who has exclusive rights to it, so that he can get something out of it, right? Maybe you would also mind if someone used your (I don't mean face) photo somewhere and made a fortune from it.
Why the hell don't they go Android style like others but keep trying to turn Android into iOS? And not only graphically :D but it's almost a joke because I don't understand what Samsung will do until it becomes the absolute number one. Who will they borrow from? They did and are doing the same thing in cameras, they ripped off Pentax. And not only in that. Fortunately, it's not enough to just copy, because this way they can always be second at most and only one innovative thing is good for them ;) The competition, on the other hand, has to add something. That's just how it goes. If possible, defend yourself by law. If there is no law or rules about it, everyone looks away from the other, that's clear, but then it's better that no one invents anything or keeps it to themselves if it doesn't bring benefits. Why have various production technologies been kept secret for centuries?
I have to agree. Incredibly interested article on the level of Blesku!
I have to admit that I am a fan of Apple, but not the sheep for whom it is necessary to write these articles to keep calm that Apple has not been surpassed. On the contrary, he was ROBBED!!!
I myself was looking forward to see how Samsung will present the new product. Why? Because it's a competitive battle and it's really nuts for the overall development in the given industry. And he interests me comprehensively, not just from the side of the bitten apple.
I don't think the Galaxy S3 looks that fantastic. It's a nice little thing, but I could imagine it in the hands of a female friend. Well, even if the size would probably look like a tablet in them. :O)
The new featurkys are nice, but not revolutionary or particularly useful.
The idea of copying after placing two phones together. Yes, if I were to meet someone else with the same phone, it would take about 4 touches. :O)
Or, why let them "pair" when they find themselves via BT.
Eye tracking, calls when placed to the ear, wireless charging, automatic photo tagging... these are basically negligible, but nice gadgets.
And the fact that I logically go the way of satisfying the user, i.e. voice assistant, cloud, music-cloud, screen sharing on TV, ... and what?
IF someone else has a patent for it, they will hunt them down, or they will agree to a % of their sales out of court.
The most important thing is that more companies make high-end phones. Phones where they take over something with each new model and spice it up with something. And then they switch roles again.
And that's progress, we've already taken another step!
So I find this article just as funny as the whole silly war "which phone is the best and the other one sucks".
when it comes to mobile phones, the first one was given by samsung in 1986... and it wasn't a concept but a mobile phone that you could buy.
the device that is in the article you sent is a normal PC with a touch screen and a modem... nothing new in those days, only no one sold it because no one would pay as much for a phone as for a normal PC (which in those days cost as much as a car) …
If you would forgive similar articles, I would visit these pages more and would rather.
Samsung was, is and will be an embarrassing copier that never invented anything. I'm surprised it's not just embarrassing and pathetic to copy others.
