Apple introduced a new generation of MacBooks, which loses all nicknames and is the biggest change that Apple laptops have experienced in many years. The new MacBook weighs only less than one kilogram, has a twelve-inch Retina display and also a brand new keyboard, which is supposed to be even better than its predecessors. Let's introduce all the news individually.
Design
Making an Apple laptop in multiple color variants is nothing new, although the trend in recent years did not indicate this. Anyone who remembers iBooks will surely remember the orange, lime or cyan color. Until 2010, a white plastic MacBook was also available, which was also available in black before.
This time, the MacBook comes in three color variants: silver, space gray and gold, similar to the iPhone and iPad. So there are no saturated colors, just a tasteful coloring of aluminum. True, the gold MacBook is quite unusual at first glance, but so was the first gold iPhone 5s.
And then there is one more thing - the bitten apple no longer shines. For many years, it was a symbol of Apple laptops, which does not continue in the new MacBook. Maybe it's for technical reasons, maybe it's just a change. However, we will not speculate.
Size and weight
If you own an 11-inch MacBook Air, you no longer have the world's thinnest or lightest MacBook. At the "thickest" point, the height of the new MacBook is just 1,3 cm, exactly like the first generation iPad. The new MacBook is also very light at 0,9 kg, making it the ideal tool to carry around – whether you're traveling or just about anywhere. Even home users will definitely appreciate the lightness.
Display
The MacBook will only be available in one size, namely 12 inches. Thanks to the IPS-LCD with a resolution of 2304 × 1440, the MacBook became the third Mac with a Retina display after the MacBook Pro and iMac. Apple deserves credit for the 16:10 aspect ratio, because on smaller widescreens, every vertical pixel counts. The display itself is only 0,88 mm thin, and the glass is 0,5 mm thick.
Hardware
Inside the body beats Intel Core M with a frequency of 1,1; 1,2 or 1,3 (depending on equipment). Thanks to economical processors with a consumption of 5 watts, there is not a single fan in the aluminum chassis, everything is cooled passively. 8 GB of operating memory will be available in the base, further expansion is not possible. Apple seems to assume that more demanding users will reach for the MacBook Pro. In the basic equipment, you also get a 256 GB SSD with the option of upgrading to 512 GB. Intel HD Graphics 5300 takes care of graphics performance.
Connectivity
It's no surprise that the new MacBook is packed with the best wireless technologies, namely Wi-Fi 802.11ac and Bluetooth 4.0. There is also a 3,5mm headphone jack. However, the new Type-C USB connector is experiencing its premiere in the apple world. Compared to its predecessors, it is double-sided and thus easier to use.
One single connector provides absolutely everything - charging, data transfer, connection to an external monitor (but a special adapter). On the other hand, it's a shame that Apple gave up on MagSaf. The company's vision is that as many things as possible on a laptop should be handled wirelessly. And rather than having two connectors in such a thin body, one of which is only for one purpose (MagSafe), it is probably more useful to drop one and combine everything into one. And maybe that's a good thing. The time when a single connector will be enough for everything is slowly beginning. Less is sometimes more.
Battery
Duration when surfing via Wi-Fi should be 9 hours. According to real experience from current models, exactly this time can be expected, even a bit higher. There is nothing so surprising about the endurance itself, the battery is more interesting. It is not made up of flat cubes, but some kind of irregularly shaped plates, which make it possible to effectively fill the already small space inside the chassis.
Trackpad
On current models, clicking is best done at the bottom of the trackpad, it's quite stiff at the top. The new design has eliminated this small drawback, and the force required to click is the same across the entire surface of the trackpad. However, this is not the main improvement, for the novelty we will have to go to the latest addition - the Watch.
The trackpad of the new MacBook allows you to use a new gesture, the so-called Force Touch. In practice, this means that OS X will perform different functions on a tap and another on a pressure. For example Quick preview, which now launches with the spacebar, you'll be able to launch with Force Touch. To top it all off, the trackpad includes a Taptic Engine, a mechanism that provides haptic feedback.
Keyboard
Although the body is smaller compared to the 13-inch MacBook, the keyboard is surprisingly larger, as the keys have 17% more surface area. At the same time, they have a lower stroke and a slight depression. Apple came up with a new butterfly mechanism that should ensure a more accurate and firm press. The new keyboard will certainly be different, hopefully for the better. The keyboard backlight has also undergone changes. A separate diode is hidden under each key. This will significantly reduce the intensity of the light coming out around the keys.
Price and availability
The basic model will cost 1 US dollars (39 990 $), which is the same as the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display, but $300 (CZK 9) more than the same-sized MacBook Air, which, however, only has 000 GB of RAM and a 4 GB SSD. Relatively expensive is not only the new MacBook, the prices they rose across the board on the entire Czech Apple Online Store. The new product will go on sale on April 10.
The current MacBook Air also remains in the offer. You today have obtained minor update and have faster processors.
if it costs 1299, how much will it cost here? :)
100% more than 1299 x odds :-)
The result is the same. In the US you have a one year warranty, here it's two years. When buying for a company, you get tax-free with a one-year warranty on the same thing ;)
+ prices on the shop in the USA are without VAT
battery?
will there be an update to iOS 8.2 today?
I didn't get it, I would also like an answer???:)
Year
Is it just me or no glowing apple? :(
the apple is already black and shiny :-(
And no update to the existing Air?
It has also been updated
I just saw Pro in the transcript
And what happens when that one connector breaks? :-/
Replacing the motherboard for 700 euros minimum :-(
This is nonsense, the board is in the middle of the laptop. There will be a special connector on the edge of the note and it will be connected to the board with a cable, just like Macbooks Pro had Retina (maybe they have)
I have a feeling that Apple is not what it used to be…
With us, it is exactly the same price as a Macbook Pro 13″ with Retina – 40K (thanks to the monetary policy of the CNB)
In short, one chooses thickness, weight, bigger ssd VS more connectors, bigger display, better CPU and graphics
Personally, I don't need connectors on a macbook, I have them on an iMac, so I'll go to it (probably, I'll wait for reviews on how it actually works)
PS: FAIL is a 480p facetime camera :D
Beautiful.... but the slow Core M processor. According to the benchmark, it is about 60% MacBook Air.
So the biggest pity is the MagSafe connector. It has already saved my macbook from falling to the ground a few times. Otherwise I like it but for 13″ rMBP. I wouldn't change it. but I'm not a target group.
I like it, the design is very good. Mainly Space Grey. But I wouldn't want him yet. It will take some time for the new USB to spread. And I'll have to absorb the non-shining apple. :(
My iMac 5k configuration is about CZK 5 cheaper, the MacBook Pro 000′ is about CZK 13 more expensive. Strange…
iMac 5k I don't see a change anywhere in the configurations. Can you write what the discount was?
And yes, I unintentionally compared with the prices for education. It still costs CZK 90. Thank you for the correction.
However, the MacBook Pro 13′, which cost 56 CZK, now costs 700 CZK.
I'm embarrassed by the MacBook. On the one hand, retina and weight, on the other hand, performance is worse than the MacBook Air, not much connectivity and an inflated price. If it wasn't about Apple, I would say that people who only use their computer for Facebook and blogging would not buy such an expensive book. ps: Those videos with Ive's voice must be creeping up the necks of even his hardcore fans, right? Selling the MacBook Pro at the same time is also a bit of a scam. We'll see after the benchmarks.
It's not a piggery. It's quite logical.
USA vs EU
– two-year warranty (in the USA they have a one-year warranty, the two-year warranty is only for an additional fee – we all pay for it in Europe)
– the price is shown with VAT
– moving rate
EU vs CR
– in the Czech Republic, in addition, the CNB artificially keeps the koruna so that both the dollar and the euro are expensive. This must be signed.
Apple is gradually adjusting that course.
Let's do some basic math - $649 is the iPhone 6 16GB in the US
Annual warranty costs +$99
=> 748
A dollar can be bought from the crown for 25,5 CZK, but let's calculate the middle 25 CZK -> 748*25=18
In the Czech Republic, however, the price includes VAT, which is currently 21%. 18700*1,21 = CZK 22
That's how much the iPhone should cost in the Czech Republic, so that it costs the same as in the USA. Wait, here it is actually cheaper than in the USA - it "only" costs a little over 21000.. :-)))
I don't see it in CR, but in Ireland, where the warranty is also only one year, if you don't argue, the prices have gone up too. So the Euro probably weakened as well.
also include sales tax there (if we are not talking about imports)
on the other hand, the additional warranty from apple has a greater value than the 2-year specified OZ
I'm still looking, 480p FaceTime camera, that's another downgrade.
Can you connect a thunderbolt display?
I don't even connect headphones, great :D
And jack or BT is not enough for you?
My fault. Look more carefully first, then write :)
I didn't connect the headphones to any laptop, nor do I remember. Considering the wide portfolio of iPhones, iPads and iPods, I wonder why Apple didn't drop the jack connector long ago. After all, there are other devices for headphone listening, and even then there is the option of BT or, in the last resort, to solve it with some kind of reduction. Instead, they took away much more necessary connectors, which many users certainly regret - practically everything they were used to is missing. Apple didn't do enough to expand its thunderbolt connector enough, and now that users have slowly started to acquire thunderbolt peripherals, you simply won't find it in the new Macbook anymore. With the Macbook itself, you practically don't cut corners at all in everyday life. At work meetings, you won't get anything into it via a flash drive or other media, you won't give anyone a quickly edited presentation from here, you're just in trouble. Yes, if you have the refuction... Yes, there would be a way to do it in a backbreaking way via wifi... But that's not how it works today, and anyone who goes around meetings like this with a laptop knows that.
The new Macbook looks nice, but probably many people will not take this dead end branch.
That's why the new MB isn't the only thing on offer ;-) I personally like it a lot and I've been hearing nothing but praise for it at work since morning. In the company, we have an Apple TV in the meeting rooms, so presentations can easily be played through it... Documents are sent by e-mail or via a network drive, I haven't seen anyone hand them over on a flash drive for years... :-D So it's perfectly fine for me :- )
because you haven't used a computer for years across platforms and across lectures, meetings, etc.
Those who don't need headphones don't use them, I need an optical output, so let it stay there for a while
But I use it, about two thirds of the company have Dell notebooks with Windows, so it works across platforms. With meetings where there is no Apple TV, one can handle a presentation opened from email... Why would I open it from a flash drive?
I'm glad they left the classic jack :-)
This is a beautiful case for which you can be happy, but it is unfortunately very rare. Apple TV is not a lifesaver in your company - sometimes you need to go to meetings in other companies. I have not yet met ATV in any of them, and it is not always possible to resolve something via email (practically never in the case of our company). Flashes are simply universal. We still have a closed corporate network without wifi and connectivity with the outside world, so the new MB is beautiful, but toothless. I wouldn't worry about performance.
Besides that, I can think of one extra reason why I'd like to be able to be plugged in at any time - just the unfortunate experience with FileVault on. I don't know when and by what oversight it happened that I have it turned on in MBA and since then the laptop tirelessly encrypts all the data on the disk, which takes a lot of resources and especially the battery. It can't be turned off until it's done. And unfortunately, the time left to finish exceeds the expected lifespan of my MBA, so that's really cool. I love Apple.
I thought I was going to write the fx, but you nailed it. reality is different, outside the client's place is a different world. I'm also worried about performance, Pro-cko also pays for me. but it's just the specifics of the job. it will be fine for free powerpoint
The comment "It's an iPad without a touchpad" on 9to5 or the verge pretty much summed up my mixed feelings. Congrats.”
"... and with MAC OS"
Yes, OSX is very important to me.
