Yesterday, Apple introduced the redesigned iPad (2022), which boasted quite extensive changes. Following the example of the iPad Air, we got a brand new design, an edge-to-edge display, the removal of the home button and the move of the Touch ID fingerprint reader to the top power button. The removal of the Lightning connector is also a huge change. After a long wait, we finally got it - even the basic iPad switched to USB-C. On the other hand, it also brings with it one minor complication.

Although the new iPad has undergone a fairly fundamental design change, it still lacks one relatively important feature. We are specifically talking about compatibility with the Apple Pencil 2. The iPad (2022) does not have wireless charging on the edge, which is why it is not compatible with the aforementioned stylus. Apple growers have to be satisfied with the first generation. But there is another catch. Although the Apple Pencil 1 works fairly well, it charges via Lightning. Apple designed this system in such a way that it is enough to insert the stylus as such into the connector from the iPad itself. But you won't find it here anymore.

A solution or a step aside?

Changing the connector thus complicated the entire situation regarding charging the Apple Pencil. Fortunately, Apple thought of this possible problem and therefore brought an "adequate solution" - a USB-C adapter for the Apple Pencil, which is used for pairing with the iPad and for charging. So, if you were to order a new iPad together with the first generation Apple stylus, this adapter, which is supposed to solve the current shortage, will already be part of the package. But what if you already have a Pencil and just want to update the tablet as such? Then Apple will gladly sell it to you for 290 crowns.

The question is therefore very simple. Is this an adequate solution, or has Apple taken a step aside with the arrival of the adapter? Of course, everyone can look at this issue differently - while for some these changes will not be a problem, others may be disappointed by the need for an additional adapter. However, disappointment is often heard from among the apple growers themselves. According to these fans, Apple had the perfect opportunity to finally drop the first-generation Apple Pencil and instead equip the new iPad (2022) with compatibility for the second generation. This would be a much more elegant solution that would not require any adapter – the Apple Pencil 2 would then be paired and charged wirelessly by magnetically attaching it to the edge of the tablet. Unfortunately, we didn't get to see something like that, so we have no choice but to wait for the next generations.

Although we did not get support for Apple Pencil 2nd generation and therefore have to settle for this less than ideal solution, we can still find something positive about the whole situation. In the end, we can be happy that when ordering the Apple Pencil 1, the necessary adapter will fortunately already be part of the package, while it can be purchased separately for a few crowns. In this respect, it is more or less not a problem. As we mentioned above, the main drawback is that apple users will have to rely on another adapter, without which they can practically be uploaded.
