As the introduction of new Apple products approaches, more and more accurate information about their form and name also appears. The new four-inch phone, which Apple wants to bring back to the menu in an updated form, will eventually be called "iPhone SE" as a Special Edition.

Until now, the new four-inch model has been referred to as the iPhone 5SE, as it was supposed to be the successor to the iPhone 5S, which Apple still sells as the last small phone. Mark Gurman of 9to5Macwhich came with the original designation, but now he heard from his sources that the five is dropping from the title.

The new iPhone is to be labeled "SE" and would thus be the first iPhone without a number suffix. This has several possible reasons. For one thing, Apple apparently doesn't want it to appear as a new model with the number 5 when the "six" iPhones are on the market and the "seven" is coming in the fall. It could be unnecessarily confusing for many customers.

The loss of the number designation, which would be the first time since the first iPhone, could also mean that the iPhone SE's lifespan -- that is, how long it will be sold -- could be longer than one year. We see a similar trend with MacBooks, for example, and it is possible that Apple will bet on it with iPads as well. The new medium iPad is to be named Pro, following the model of the larger one.

Mark Gurman is practically the only more reliable source that so far informs about upcoming news from the Apple workshop. However, respected blogger John Gruber also commented on his latest report. "Apple was never going to call this iPhone the '5 SE.' Why would Apple give a new iPhone a name that sounds old?” he wrote Gruber. So it seems that we can really count on the name iPhone SE.

Gruber then added one more thought – whether we should think of the new model more like an iPhone 6S in a four-inch body rather than an iPhone 5S with improved internals. So far, the upcoming iPhone SE has mainly been compared to the existing 5S variant significantly close in terms of design. “Aren't the guts the defining characteristic of any iPhone?” asks Gruber.

In the end, it doesn't matter, it's more a matter of perspective, but the important thing is that the iPhone SE is really meant to be exactly what Gruber suggests. According to available information, it will receive the latest A9 processors with the M9 coprocessor, and there is new speculation that its camera will have six megapixels more than the previously mentioned 8 megapixels. The iPhone 6S should primarily have a 3D Touch display.

On the contrary, what the new phone will take from the iPhone 5S is its appearance, although the display will probably have slightly rounded shapes on the edges, and also the price, which should remain at a very similar level.

We could expect the new iPhone SE in less than three weeks.
