Apple Watch is an integral part of Apple's product range. This smart watch boasts a number of great functions and can simply make our everyday life easier. Not only can they be used for checking notifications or dictating messages, but they are also the perfect partner for monitoring sports activities and sleep. In addition, on the occasion of yesterday's WWDC 2022 developer conference, Apple, as expected, presented us with the new watchOS 9 operating system, which will give the smart watches from the Cupertino giant's workshop even more capabilities.

Specifically, we are expecting new animated watch faces, improved podcast playback, better sleep and health monitoring, and a number of other changes. In any case, Apple was able to draw a lot of attention to itself with one thing - by introducing changes to the native Exercise application, which will especially please runners and sports-minded people. So let's take a closer look at the news from watchOS 9 for sports lovers.

watchOS 9 focuses on exercise

As we mentioned above, this time Apple focused on exercise and brought a number of rather interesting innovations that will make sports activities easier and more enjoyable for Apple Watch users. The initial change consists in changing the user environment during exercise. Using the digital crown, the user will be able to change what is currently displayed. So far, we don't have many options in this regard, and it was literally time for a real change. Now we will have a real-time overview of the status of closed rings, heart rate zones, strength and elevation.

Further news will especially please the aforementioned runners. Practically immediately, you will receive instant feedback informing you whether your speed is meeting your current goal. In this regard, there is also a dynamic speed that will help you achieve your goals. What's also a great feature is the ability to challenge yourself. Apple Watch will remember the routes of your runs, which opens up new possibilities for you to try to break your own record and thus constantly motivate yourself to keep moving. watchOS will now also take care of measuring a number of other information. It will have no problem analyzing your stride length, ground contact time or running dynamics (vertical oscillation). Thanks to these innovations, the apple runner will be able to understand his running style much better and eventually move forward.

One more metric, which we have mentioned so far only marginally, is absolutely key. Apple refers to it as Running Power, which monitors and analyzes running performance in real time, according to which it practically measures the runner's effort. Subsequently, during the exercise itself, it can then tell you whether, for example, you should slow down a bit in order to maintain yourself at the current level. Finally, we must not forget to mention the great news for triathletes. Apple Watch can now automatically switch between running, swimming and cycling when exercising. Practically in an instant, they switch over the current type of exercise and thus take care of providing the most accurate information possible.

Health

Health is closely related to movement and exercise. Apple did not forget about this in watchOS 9 either, and therefore brought other interesting news that can make everyday life easier. The new Medications application is coming. The apple tree will point out that they have to take medicines or vitamins and therefore keep a complete overview of the medicines used.

Changes have also been made to the native sleep monitoring, which has recently faced a lot of criticism from apple users. It's not really surprising - the measurement wasn't the best, with competing apps often surpassing the native measurement capabilities. The Cupertino giant therefore decided to make a change. watchOS 9 therefore brings a novelty in the form of sleep cycle analysis. Immediately after waking up, apple-eaters will have information about how much time they spent in deep sleep or the REM phase.
