Watch 1

watchOS 1 was the successor to the watchOS 2015 operating system in September 2. It was based on the iOS 9 operating system, and in addition to the new watch faces, it brought improved Siri functions, new exercises and new functions in the native Activity. It also offered support for Apple Pay, the Wallet application, the ability to connect with friends, support for Maps or even support for voice calls via FaceTime. In December 2015, Czech language support was added to watchOS 2.

Watch 3

In September 2016, Apple released its watchOS 3 operating system. This innovation offered users the option of placing their favorite apps in the Dock, which could hold up to ten items. Added complications for Photos, Time Lapse, Exercise, Music or News, Disney watch faces, the Watch app for iOS got a new section called Watch Face Gallery. The Activity app has added the ability to share and compare activity rings, workouts have received improvements and new customization options, and there's also a new native Breathing app. The watchOS 3 operating system also allowed finger typing, and new smart home control options were added.

Watch 4

The watchOS 4 operating system was released in September 2019. It traditionally offered new watch faces, including the Siri watch face, but it also brought improvements to the Activity application in the form of monthly challenges and personalized notifications, new exercise options, the possibility of continuous heart rate measurement or a warning about too fast a heart rate. The Music application was redesigned, the News service was added in selected regions, and the flashlight could be activated from the Control Center. Gesture support in the Mail application and new suggestions in Maps have also been added.

Watch 5

The watchOS 5 operating system saw the light of day in September 2018. Among the news it brought was the possibility of automatic detection of the start of exercises, new Podcasts and new types of exercises. Users also got the Walkie-Talkie function, the Raise the wrist function, grouping notifications and the ability to view websites from iMessage appeared. The option to schedule Do Not Disturb mode was also added, and a little later the ECG application appeared, but it was only intended for the Apple Watch Series 4.

Watch 6

The watchOS 6 operating system was released in September 2019. It brought new native applications Cycle Tracking, Noise, Dictaphone, audiobooks and its own App Store were also added. Users got the ability to track activity trends, new workouts and of course new watch faces, and Siri voice assistant capabilities were also improved. The watchOS 6 operating system also brought support for automatic software updates, new settings and customization options across the system, a new calculator with the ability to calculate percentages and split bills, and new complications.

Watch 7

The watchOS 6 operating system became the successor to watchOS 2020 in September 7. This update brought news in the form of new watch faces, a sleep monitoring tool with Night Quiet mode, or perhaps a function for automatic detection of hand washing. A new Memoji application has also been added, a function for measuring blood oxygenation (only for Apple Watch Series 6), the possibility of family settings or perhaps the At School mode. Users could also share watch faces, new options for working with complications and new exercises were added.

Watch 8

The latest version of the operating system for the Apple Watch is the recently introduced watchOS 8.
