The Samsung Galaxy Gear is the first smartwatch that was expected to be a huge success. However, as the first sales figures show, the Korean manufacturer has sharply overestimated the attractiveness and potential of its first smartwatch. Galaxy Gear sold only 50 thousand units.

Sales figures remained far below initial market expectations. Report portal BusinessKorea it says only 800 to 900 people a day have bought them so far. Considering the media space that Samsung allocated for a new type of product, it is clear that the Korean manufacturer expected much higher popularity.

The position of the Korean manufacturer succeeded gain server Business Insider. Executive Vice President David Eun highlighted the fact that Samsung was the first major company to bring a smartwatch to market. "Personally, I think a lot of people didn't appreciate that we innovated and got that product out there. It is not easy to integrate all functions into a single device," he responded to the first published numbers.

He also used a peculiar biophilic interpretation: “When it comes to innovation, I like to use the analogy of tomatoes. We currently have small green tomatoes. What we want to do is take care of them and work with them to make them big ripe red tomatoes.”

BusinessKorea editors see the issue more pragmatically. "Samsung's products are not revolutionary, but rather testing. Both customers and manufacturers are more interested in the products that Samsung will release next year."

They also add that the Galaxy Gear is not the only product this year with which Samsung is trying to reconnoitre the terrain. Galaxy Round, the first smartphone with a curved display, is a similar test of new technologies. Even in this case, however, the sales figures indicate a significant lack of public interest. Only a hundred people buy this phone every day.

The first reviews of the device also confirm that, rather than a revolutionary novelty bringing new functions, it is really only a test of customer reaction. And the opportunity to say that we were just us, who used the curved display for the first time, is certainly not to be thrown away either.

But as we know from the fierce battle between iOS and Android, the important thing in the end will not be who was the first, but who is the most successful. Most likely on your own smart watch today they work big companies like Apple, Google or LG, which can still really shuffle the cards in the fight for our wrists.
