There are only a few hours left until the next Apple event. As the date approaches, speculations about what will finally be presented are increasing. From the name of the event Back to Mac it is clear that it will mainly be Mac. Either the devices themselves or the software for them. One of the most anticipated novelties, in addition to the samples from the new version of OS X, is certainly the MacBook Air.

Apple has recently devoted a lot of energy to its flagship products: iOS devices, iPods and classic MacBooks. Steve Jobs obviously feels the potential and the money, which is why the Apple TV was quite radically innovated. Now it's the turn of the thinnest Mac notebook in the range, with the apt name Air = air. It was launched in January 2008 and last upgraded in June 2009.

As early as April, a photo of a presumably disassembled prototype circulated on the Internet. It is evident that this is probably a thirteen-inch monitor. Apple has given up on its flip-out port solution. The image shows an increase in the size of the battery, which is "composed" of four parts and took up part of the space for the classic hard drive - it will be replaced by an SSD.

On Monday, October 18, the Cult of Mac server revealed more information about the possible parameters of the new MacBook Air, so let's summarize them:

  • Configuration: Dual-core Intel Core 2 Duo processor with a frequency of 2,1 GHz/2 GB RAM and 2,4 GHz/4 GB RAM, NVidia GeForce 320M graphics card. USB ports are located one on the left and the other on the right, mini DisplayPort and SD card reader on the left side. RAM and SSD should be replaceable.
  • The new Air should appear in two versions, namely 13" and 11", while the cheaper eleven-inch model should appeal mainly to students.
  • The regular hard drive will be replaced by a faster and more economical SSD drive, or an Apple-modified SSD card, which will have a significantly lower capacity (this point is very speculative).
  • Battery performance should increase by up to 50%, the operating time of the notebook would thus reach 8 to 10 hours compared to the current 5 hours.
  • The new model should be even thinner and lighter than the current one, according to the render there should also be design changes. Curves should replace sharp edges.
  • The Air should get the same glass touchpad as the MacBook Pro.
  • Booting should be so fast that it takes your breath away.
  • The prices are very speculative, according to the 9 to 5 Mac site, they should be around 1100 dollars for the 11" version, for the 13" you should pay around 1400 dollars.

If Apple really came up with an 11-inch MBA, we could talk about the first Apple Netbook, but only in terms of size. Some gossip contradicts each other (easy RAM replacement, but in the photo above the memory is hard-soldered). We will find out how it will all turn out in reality on Wednesday evening.
