As most fans of the Californian company know, Apple introduced three new machines yesterday – namely the Mac mini, MacBook Air and 13″ MacBook Pro. If you're thinking about one of these and also own an external graphics card (eGPU) that you'd like to use with it, we've got some bad news for you. None of the aforementioned Macs with M1 processors support an external GPU.

Apple didn't even include the BlackMagic eGPU in support, which it heavily promotes on its website and is still available in its Online Store. You can view this information under technical specifications, where you can switch between the specifications of a Mac with an M1 chip and an Intel processor. While Intel has a box with information about support, you would look for it in vain with the M1. This information has even been confirmed by Apple itself, namely to TechCrunch magazine. He stated that users of the new Apple computers will simply have to settle for integrated graphics cards.

The Mac mini and 13″ MacBook Pro have an 8-core integrated GPU, as for the MacBook Air, the number of GPU cores is the same except for the basic configuration. In the entry-level MacBook Air with an M1 processor, you'll find a GPU with "only" seven cores. Apple really touted its integrated GPU at yesterday's Keynote, so we have to hope that it can at least partially erase the difference between using an integrated and external graphics card. On the one hand, I understand that some buyers may be put off by this fact, but on the other hand, these are still the first machines with new processors, and Apple did not even expect that they would serve only professionals. We'll see how the integrated GPU copes with the needs of users.
