In this regular column, every day we look at the most interesting news that revolves around the California company Apple. Here we focus exclusively on the main events and selected (interesting) speculations. So if you are interested in current events and want to be informed about the apple world, definitely spend a few minutes on the following paragraphs.

Mini-LED and OLED displays are aimed at the iPad Pro

In recent months, there has been quite a lot of talk about the arrival of the new iPad Pro, which will be equipped with a so-called Mini-LED display. A South Korean website has now shared the latest information The Elec. According to their claims, Apple plans to introduce such an apple tablet already in the first half of next year, while other sources also talk about the same date. Today, however, we received relatively fresh news.

iPad Pro (2020):

In the first half of next year, we should expect an iPad Pro with a Mini LED display and in the second half another model with an OLED panel. Samsung and LG, which are the largest suppliers of displays for Apple, should reportedly already be working on these OLED displays. But how it will be in the final is understandably unclear for now. However, most agree that Mini-LED technology will be limited only to more expensive pieces with a 12,9″ display. It can thus be expected that the smaller 11″ Pro model will still offer the traditional Liquid Retina LCD, while a few months later a professional iPad with an OLED panel will be introduced. Compared to LCD, mini-LED and OLED offer very similar benefits, including higher brightness, significantly better contrast ratio and better energy consumption.

HomePod mini owners are reporting WiFi connection issues

Last month, the Californian giant showed us the expected HomePod mini smart speaker. It hides first-class sound in its small dimensions, of course offers the Siri voice assistant and can become the center of a smart home. The product entered the market relatively recently. Unfortunately, just like the older HomePod (2018), the HomePod mini is not officially sold in the Czech Republic. But some owners are already starting to report the first problems associated with connecting via WiFi.

Users are reporting that their HomePod mini suddenly disconnects from the network, causing Siri to say “I am having trouble connecting to the Internet.” In this regard, the Californian giant indicates that a simple restart or return to factory settings could help. Unfortunately, this is not a permanent solution. Although the mentioned options will solve the problem, it will return within a few hours. At the moment, we can only hope for a quick fix via a software update to the operating system.

You can connect up to 1 monitors to the new Macs with the M6 chip

The relatively hot news on the market are undoubtedly the new Macs with the M1 chip from the Apple Silicon family. The Californian giant has relied on processors from Intel in recent years, from which it switched to its own solution for three of its Macs. This transition brings significantly higher performance and lower energy consumption. In particular, we saw the MacBook Air, the 13″ MacBook Pro and the Mac mini. But what about connecting external monitors with these new apple computers? The previous MacBook Air with an Intel processor managed one 6K/5K or two 4K monitors, the 13″ MacBook Pro with an Intel processor was able to connect one 5K or two 4K monitors, and the Mac mini from 2018, again with an Intel processor, was able to run up to three 4K monitors, or one 5K monitor in combination with a 4K display.

This year, Apple promises that the Air and "Pročko" with the M1 chip can handle one external display with a resolution of up to 6K at a refresh rate of 60 Hz. The new Mac mini is a bit better. It can specifically deal with a monitor with a resolution of up to 6K at 60 Hz when connected via Thunderbolt and with one display with a resolution of up to 4K and 60 Hz using classic HDMI 2.0. If we take a good look at these numbers, it is clear that the new pieces are a bit behind the previous generation in this respect. Anyway, YouTuber Ruslan Tulupov shed some light on this topic. And the result is definitely worth it.

The YouTuber figured out that with the help of the DisplayLink adapter you can connect up to 6 external monitors to the Mac mini, and then one less to the Air and Pro laptops. Tulupov used a variety of monitors ranging from 1080p to 4K, as Thunderbolt generally wouldn't be able to handle the transmission of six 4K displays at once. During the actual testing, the video was turned on in full-screen mode, and the render was also performed in the Final Cut Pro program. At the same time, everything ran beautifully smoothly and only at certain moments we can see a drop in frames per second.
