One of the biggest news Fourth generation Apple TV is definitely a new driver. It no longer only has hardware buttons, but also a touch surface, through which you move in the new tvOS environment. However, even the previous controller still understands the latest Apple set-top box.

The aluminum controller supplied with the previous two generations only had a navigation wheel and buttons for calling up the menu and play/pause. Introduced in September Apple TV has a much more sophisticated controller. The touch screen in the upper part is complemented by five hardware buttons, and in addition, Apple TV can be controlled by voice (in supported countries).

However, those who have an older controller at home would not have to throw it away immediately. How on your blog pointed out Kirk McElhearn, the new Apple TV can also be controlled with this aluminum remote, and sometimes the experience is even better.

For example, scrolling through long movie lists isn't quite ideal with the new Siri Remote (called "Apple TV Remote" in non-Siri countries), as you're constantly running your finger across the touchpad and waiting to get to the end.

However, if you pick up a 2nd or 3rd generation Apple TV remote, you can just press or hold the up/down arrow and scroll through the list much faster. Entering text on the on-screen keyboard is also more accurate thanks to the aluminum controller, which Czech users could especially welcome, as voice control does not yet work in our country.
