Previously, I could not praise Byline as an RSS reader for iPhone. It fulfilled basic important functions for me, but the development of version 3.0 is dragging on, so it was time to try something from a competitor. And about three weeks ago, I discovered the Newsie RSS reader, which exceeded all my expectations.
Newsie needs a Google Reader account to run, it doesn't work without one. Newsie is primarily driven by the motto "speed". He relies on this quality and it shows. When you start a normal RSS reader, all new articles are downloaded slowly and often you don't even get to your most popular sources and you get off the public transport again. That won't happen to you with Newsie!
Why is it like this? When you start, you will only download the 25 most recent articles (unless you set a different amount), but the power is that you can then click on a filter and have the last 25 articles in a folder or feed loaded. In short, you only read what you're in the mood for at the moment. If you want to continue with another 25, just load another one or filter another feed. In short, only what you are interested in is always loaded. And incredibly fast even on GPRS!
With Newsie, you can share articles in Google Reader, add notes to them, share to Twitter via a 3rd party Twitter client or, for example, star them. And that brings me to another interesting feature. If you star the article, the original page with the article will be saved for offline reading in Newsie. You can recognize such an article by the added paperclip next to the article title. This feature didn't work perfectly in the last version, and the author admits that there may be problems in the new version 1.1, but I haven't experienced any yet.
If, like me, you prefer Instapaper, it can also be used in Newsie, where you can easily send the article to Instapaper. I must not forget the possible optimization of articles through Google Mobilizer, which cuts unnecessary advertising, menus and the like from articles and leaves only the text, so you can read the entire original text without having to wait a long time for it to load. You can enable this option in the application settings. Optimization for mobile connections will only take place if you are connected via 3G and below, no optimization occurs on WiFi.
The app looks and works absolutely great. Of course, you can also open the article in Safari or unmail it. It is easy to move from one article to the next, and you can mark the article as unread after reading it. The only minus that might bother someone is that feeds cannot be managed directly from the application. Personally, I don't mind, because managing Google Reader from the desktop is much more convenient and clear.
Newsie has become the new king of iPhone RSS readers for me. A completely simple, lightning-fast and at the same time incredibly useful iPhone application. This is how I imagined mobile RSS reading. I recommend all ten!

Have you tried Newsstand? In my opinion, the best RSS reader. It has perhaps the most features and everything I need for reading RSS. And above all, there is no need to sync with the slow Google Reader.
I will try Newsie, but would it be better than Newsstand? In our city, I have all the news from RSS on 3G downloaded in 30 seconds, and even if it were 2 minutes, I don't see a disadvantage in that, because in the meantime, before all new articles are downloaded, I read new articles that have already been downloaded.
I don't know if I understood the main function of Newsie correctly, but I don't see any great advantage in it.
Yeah, then yeah. In your case, Newsstand is probably inadequate. I have about 70 sources and most of them are blogs and Newsstand is enough for me.
Otherwise, I couldn't get used to Google Redaer, I just don't like using it. That's why I use the original RSS reader in Opera. And I do it by reading the news in Nesstand and then in Opera I either unclick it or look at it again to see if they added comments or something... It takes a lot of time, because the synchronization between the two RSS readers does not take place, but I'm done get used to it and I won't forget to check if they nailed the comments, because I don't use RSS comments.
I'm currently using MobileRSS because NNW2 Premium is somehow still not available in our app store. And sync with google reader is just what I need so that I don't have to keep track of what I've read on my iPhone in NNW on a notepad.
So I apologize and I'm just checking that NNW2 Premium is finally available.
I've also been using mobileRSS for a long time and so far I'm satisfied, moreover, I downloaded it when it was free for a while, otherwise it costs 2.99
Well, on the newsstand, I didn't think that every channel was loaded, especially since it takes a really long time with GPRS
Anyway, this reader looks very good, I'll probably give it a try, thanks for the tip
I have a question about Newsie - it is written that it supports river mode - does this mean that only ribver display, or is it also capable of such a classic display under the channels? I have several groups and different channels in each, and I'm not used to reading them all right from top to bottom. In short, I would need to be able to see the groups first, then I click on the channel and then only see the articles of that channel. Please don't confuse it with filtering, I limit what I want to download. Thanks for the reply from the possible app owner.
Thanks for the reply. If I understand it correctly, I have the option to choose that I want to read the 14205.w5.wedos.net feed and then jump to the iPhone.cz feed and the like? Any chance to read it step by step? I like the fact that I can read according to my mood, loading according to feeds as well, I just don't want iDnes news mixed in with my news about Apple. I'm not interested in anything else... Would it be possible to publish a screenshot showing the interface with the option to select a feed? Thanks
Ok, bought :-)) it's great, although different and it took me a while to get used to it.
The program costs 3,99 euros. Not 2,79 as stated in the article
However, that changes the situation :D
Only that Newsstand Google Mobilizer has. I don't really understand the difference between if I don't turn on synchronization at the beginning and I just go into the folder and synchronize there.
Hon thanks! I couldn't resist, tried it and it's really good!
You lured me in and I don't regret it, thanks. It fits exactly into my way of scrolling through new feeds, i.e. on the go I only scroll through "mac_cz" and, depending on time and taste, possibly others...
Sorry to open an older article, but maybe someone will notice :-) Can someone compare Newsie and Reeder?
toncek: Reeder is suitable when you need to download all the articles at one time = you have a sufficiently fast connection at one time and then you write offline. Newsie is ideal when you're in the field and want to read the exact feed or folder as quickly as possible, because it loads exactly the folder you need :) Is that enough?
That's enough :-) For me, it comes out half and half, so I'll see...
