The New York Police Department (NYPD) has had quite a few scandalous announcements. It concerns business phones, or their variations. At first glance, there would be nothing wrong with this, if a similar change did not take place two years ago and cost approximately 160 million dollars. After two years, it turned out that this move was not a happy choice, and NYPD officers will get new service phones.

At the end of 2014, the NYPD decided to modernize and buy new phones for all officers, which would serve as an important aid in the field. The phones were supposed to be used both for communication and for searching in police databases, filling out online protocols, etc. However, for some reason, the police decided to use the services of Nokia (Microsoft) and buy 36 mobile phones from them. As it was planned, it also happened in the course of 2015. The NYPD purchased the above number of devices, split between the 830 and 640XL models.

Even then, the American media wrote about the fact that this was a very imprudent step. Investing a lot of money in a platform that is dying and basically about to die. These negative forecasts have come true, and not only is the Windows mobile platform practically dead, Microsoft even ended support for version 8.1 this year. Due to the size of the entire force, it is unlikely that there will be a mass migration to Windows 10 and therefore the NYPD was forced to leave the entire ecosystem and will buy new devices.

And this time it should be about phones that won't have problems with support. Cops should be sniffing the new iPhones. It should be "brand new models", but it is not yet clear whether they will still be the new sevens, or completely new iPhones that Apple will introduce in two weeks.
