Yesterday we informed you that the EU asked IT companies that stream content on the Internet to limit the quality due to network congestion. The reason is the current situation, when many people are at home and a larger number of people use the Internet not only for work, but also for entertainment. By limiting the quality of the stream, it eases the network.

The restriction was first announced by Netflix. It will reduce the data flow of videos in Europe for 30 days. And that's for all available resolutions. For example, you will still be able to watch a movie in 4K resolution, but its quality will be slightly lower than what you are normally used to. Netflix claims that the move will reduce its demands on networks by 25 percent. YouTube has announced that it will temporarily set all videos in the EU to be standard definition (SD) by default. However, the higher resolution can still be activated manually.

Meanwhile, France has asked Disney to delay the launch of its Disney+ streaming service. Many streaming companies are reporting big increases in subscriptions. Cloud gaming via Geforce Now, for example, cannot even be purchased at the moment because Geforce does not have enough servers to ensure smooth operation. British operator BT noted that more people are working from home due to the pandemic and internet usage has increased by 60 percent during the day. At the same time, the operator assured that it is not even close to what their network can handle.
