The main theme of CES 2022 was interoperability. Yes, 2022 could finally be the year the smart home finally grows up and moves from a collection of shiny gadgets that provide mostly single-purpose solutions to the whole-home interoperability that has long been its promise.

Every cloud has a silver lining. It's a cliché, but it's true. And the coronavirus pandemic still confines many of the planet's inhabitants to their homes. Even accessory manufacturers know this, and they want to provide them with a more comfortable coexistence with their household. And because technology is constantly advancing, better times are approaching in the smart home as well. In a little while we will all be inflecting two words. For owners of Apple devices it will of course be HomeKit, for others Matter. Here, however, we will look at devices that fall into the first category.

Lights but also cameras

The latest security camera Eve The $250 Outdoor Cam will be released on April 5, 2022. The Apple HomeKit Secure Video floodlight camera features 1080p video, a 157-degree field of view, infrared night vision, and infrared motion detection covering 100 degrees at a distance of up to 9 meters.

CES 2022

SOCIETY Cync by Savant launched on the market a number of new smart light bulbs, as well as a new thermostat with room sensors and a new outdoor camera. The lighting line starts at just $12 and will be available in March. The Cync outdoor camera will be available in February starting at $100, and the thermostat will cost $120, with the room sensors starting at $30 each. Lighting company Cync, now owned by high-end custom smart home company Savant, appears to be trying to carve out a place among the bigger players. And it's very nice.

SOCIETY TP-Link, which is well known here as well, offers a new line of smart home products under the brand tap. These include smart lights, sockets, LED strips and a smart switch with HomeKit support. Products will appear throughout the year, starting with the Mini Plug socket. The company also announced four new cloud-connected Tapo security cameras, some of which can even record content to a microSD card.

Home security

Latest product Arlo not a camera, even though the company mainly deals with them. Its Arlo Security System is a do-it-yourself smart home security system that features all-in-one multi-sensors with eight different functions. Arlo says the system will be available for purchase in the first half of 2022.

SOCIETY Schlage announced the first smart lock compatible with the Home Key system. The Schlage Encode Plus Smart WiFi Deadbolt is an updated version of the popular Schlage Encode WiFi smart lock, which adds an NFC chip for the Home Key function, but is also present for the HomeKit platform. It will be available in spring 2022 for $300, but unfortunately only for North America for now.
