Apple's mobile operating system has just undergone the biggest revolution since its inception. iOS 7 offers a completely redesigned user interface and many new features…

After five years, really drastic changes are coming to iPhones and iPads. Led by Jony Ive and Craig Federighi, the new iOS 7 has much sharper lines, flatter icons, thinner fonts and a brand new graphical environment. The lock screen has completely changed, a panel has been added for quick access to settings and control of various system functions, and all basic applications are also unrecognizable.

The most anticipated point of today's keynote was presented on stage by Craig Federighi, head of OS X and iOS, but before that, Jony Ive, who has the lion's share of iOS 7's shape, appeared in a video. "We've always thought of design as more than just how something looks," started The design guru also said that the icons in iOS 7 feature a new color palette. Old colors have been replaced by modern shades and tones.

A "flatness" is then felt across the entire system. All controls and buttons have been modernized and flattened, apps have gotten rid of all leather and other similar real-world textures and now have a clean and once again flat interface. The bright handwriting of Jony Ive and, conversely, probably the nightmare of Scott Forstall. At first glance, the change in the upper left corner also catches the eye - the signal strength is not symbolized by dashes, but only by dots.

Finally, easy access to settings

Apple has heard the calls of its users for years, and in iOS 7 it is finally possible to easily and quickly access the settings and other controls of the entire system. Dragging your finger from the bottom up brings up a panel from which you can easily control airplane mode, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and the Do Not Disturb function. At the same time, from the Control Center, as the new panel is called, you can adjust the brightness of the display, control the music player and AirPlay, but also quickly switch to several applications. There are shortcuts for the camera, calendar, timer, and there is also the option to turn on the rear diode.

Control Center will be available across the entire system, including the lock screen. The last unmentioned feature that will be available from Control Center is AirDrop. It also appears for the first time in iOS and, following the Mac model, it will be used for very easy sharing of content with friends near you. AirDrop works very simply. Just choose the file you want to share, AirDrop will automatically suggest available friends and do the rest for you. For encrypted data transfer to work, no settings or connections are required, only activated Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. However, only the latest iOS devices from 2012 will support AirDrop. For example, you can no longer share content on an iPhone 4S.

Improved Notification Center and multitasking

In iOS 7, the Notification Center is also accessible from the lock screen. By the way, she lost the iconic slider for unlocking the device. Even the Notification Center did not miss the dramatic flattening and modernization of the entire system, and now you can only view missed notifications. The daily overview is also handy, offering you information about the current day, the weather, calendar events and other things you should know about that day.

Multitasking has also undergone a welcome change. Switching between applications will now be more convenient, because next to the icons when you double-tap the Home button, in iOS 7 you can also see a live preview of the applications themselves. Additionally, with the new API, developers will be able to allow their apps to run in the background.

Updated applications

Some apps have undergone more dramatic changes, some smaller, but all have at least a new icon and a flatter, more modern design. The camera got a new interface, including a new mode – taking square photos, i.e. in a 1:1 aspect ratio. And since Apple goes with the times, its new application must not lack filters for quick editing of captured images.

The redesigned Safari will offer the possibility to see more content thanks to the full-screen browsing mode. The search line was also unified, which can now either go to the entered address or search for the given term in the search engine. In iOS 7, Safari also handles panels, i.e. their scrolling, in a new way. Of course, Safari works with the new iCloud Keychain, so important passwords and other data are always at hand. The new interface also offers other applications, applications for photo management, e-mail client, weather overview and news are mostly minimalistic.

Of the minor changes in iOS 7, it is worth mentioning the improved Siri, both in terms of voice and functionality. The voice assistant now integrates Twitter or Wikipedia. An interesting feature Activation Lock got the Find My iPhone service. When someone wants to turn off the ability to focus their iOS device on the map, they will first have to enter their Apple ID password. The maps got a night mode for better reading of the display in the dark, and deleted notifications on one device are deleted automatically on the others as well. In iOS 7, FaceTime is no longer just for video calls, but only audio can be transmitted in high quality. The automatic update of applications in the App Store is also a welcome novelty.
